Help with Choosing a Quick indoor lens

Hi Folks

I'm new to the DSLR scene

I have a 350D Body with the 18-55mm Kit lens and a 75-300mm USM lens

What I'm after is an indoor lens which will allow me to take shots without the need for the flash, ie something quick that will perform in low light.

I have about £200 to spend, I'm in the UK.

... A lens that can hardly be beat for price in the low light space is the 80 EUR Canon 50/1.8
... its more expensive and better big brother, the Canon 50/1.4 (320 EUR)
... and also the very good Sigma 30/1.4 EX (350 EUR?) that has the advantage of the wider field of view ...

... but most likely the most cost effective way to find out whether you like primes at all is the 50/1.8.

... and, of course, bumping your ISO to 1600 or even 3200 and using the free Imagenomic noiseware community edition.

I'll second Andythaler's comments. Also depends on what you will be shooting indoors. Many indooors sports people will tell you to also consider the 85/1.8

The above suggestions about cover it at reasonable prices.

I guess my best bet would be to buy the 50mm 1.8 and see how I get on.

As already mentioned the lens will only set me back £60.

I would say the Sigma 30/1.4 but its out of your price range (almost £300) but well worth the cost. the canon 85/1.8 is also out of your price range, in fact i would say all the lens's mentioned apart from the 50/1.8 are out of your price range so i guess that narrows it down a bit.
I was in the same situation a while ago and got the 50/1.8 and its a good lens but can be quite tight indoors. i wanted the Canon 35/2.0 which i think is around £200 but couldnt track one down so went for the Sigma and now i use that most of the time.
Its worth spending a bit more if you can on something that suits you rather than getting something you may replace soon.
just my thoughts though and you cant go wrong with the 50/1.8

I didnt see where you specified primes so here is an idea. Indoors I almost solely use my Sigma 24-70 2.8 if not I am using the 50 1.8. With decent indoor light and high ISO I rarely have to use the 50 unless the action is pretty fast.

Sigma4less has it for $364.95USD. Not sure how that translates to your budget. (Suspect it streatches it a little)

I'd recommend the canon 35mm f2. It costs about £200, maybe a little less, and since I got it my 50mm f1.8 has been gathering dust. The 35mm f2 is very sharp, focuses well and is a superb low light lens - love it!

I use my Tamron 28-75 a lot indoors, though it's not as light-sensitive as my nifty fifty... but it zooms and that's also worth something.

What about the Canon EF 35 f/2, EF 28 f/1.8 and EF 24 f/2.8?
