I just received a Canon EFS 18-55 IS lens I bought on ebay. Neither autofocus or image stabilization work on it (I tried it on my 300D, 350D and 450D bodies - same on all of them). Is there anything easy I could look for on it before trying to get the seller to take it back? (I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but it never hurts to ask)

thanks

does focus confirmation work if you manually focus the lens

If it's not working just raise a dispute on ebay, if the seller described it as in working condition.

Yes it does. In fact I figured out that it will focus in one direction, but not the other.

Yup, I'm prepared to do that if that's what it comes down to. I'd rather 1. have a working lens or 2. get a refund from the seller voluntarily before I go the dispute route. I had to do that before and it took F-O-R-E-V-E-R.

Tried cleaning the contacts on the lens?

Yes, it didn't help.
