Hoping someone can help me with this....I bought a new Lexar 16 gig cf card 400x speed.
When I put it in my 50D I have 754 shots available after I format the card. I shoot Raw.
When I put the same card in my 5D Classic I only have 512 and when I format the card it only says 7.0 Gig available.

Any ideas as to why since my 50D has more mega pixels per photo than the 5D?
I must be missing something.

Could the newer card not be readable by my 5D?

Any advise would be great.

Mag

Most probably the camera cannot "see" the entire capacity of the card. Remember, it dates from a time when a 4GB card was huge and expen$ive!

Of course it would not be in the manual, but try giving Canon a call and know for sure.

I'll have to double check mine. I have two 16GB cards I use in the 5Dc and I don't remember ever having a problem with it. Isn't the 50D a 10MP camera and the 5D a 12MP? Not sure if that has any effect.

You may have to upgrade to the latest firmware.

I can get almost 500 shots (RAW) on an 8GB card. Sorry, I don't have a 16

5D classic firmware version 1.1.1 will, indeed, support a 16GB card. A fresh card in my 5D set to RAW will display 14.9GB and 979 shots remaining at ISO 100.

Well now i know, thanks. Though i prefer smaller cards (8 or 4) for some reason... Less to sift through. Weird, i know. But it helps me organize

I guess op's cam just needs New firmware... I was misinformed. the 5d had an 8gig cap at one point thoug h, no?
