I took some shots of my sister and its mainly the kind of pictures that I take, I am looking for a few things here.

  1. Things that I can do to improve the pic when it was taken.
  2. Touchup ideas which are easy and straight forward (no major surgery please :))
  3. Exposure especially with the water, underexposing will make my subject darker.
  4. AWB, I used a custom white exposure. I wonder if i done it correctly.

I dont know what I done wrong here, the picture just doesnt look sharp. I was using manual focus.

Some sharpening done here, looking for feedback.

Some botched touchup done here, intentionally botched so that I can learn the correct way to do this, the objective is to soften the texture of the skin

I agree completely!! The only reason I'd ever use manual is if I was doing macro photography or video. Otherwise, even for portraits, manual focus is not useful.

Pretty subject. White balance looks OK. Exposure is spot on in the first one, but she's out of focus. Why manual?

Your focus is good on the second and third. They're overexposed, but not by much. Her top is black, like in the first one, yes? Make it so. A vertical composition would be more appropriate on all of them I think.

Regarding #1...nothing's wrong with using manual focus; perhaps you need to make a dioptric adjustment.

Have you had your eyesight checked recently?
