OK time's up.....time to post some pics. This is considered good manners after many people spent lots of time here helping you. Its a sort of moral obligation to give back after asking for and receiving plenty of assistance.

We are all dying to see the images hallfrisch.

I'm thinking the pics weren't as good as OP first thought, when they saw them on the pc. Maybe embarrassed now, to admit that.

The day has come and gone got some fantastic shots will post after i get some through post production.

I've had my canon 60D with a 18-200mm f/3.5 at 18 and f/5.6 at 200m telescopic kit lens since Christmas and i have been in love with it. the 18-200mm has been wonderful for everything I've done thus far. but I have been asked to shoot my sisters wedding <.<;. I have been reading up and the more i do the more i am being told I NEED a faster lens something at least f/2.8 or less.

advice?
edit*
So thus far most are suggesting a 17-55 or a 17-50mm the 17-55mm is a bit to expensive for me. but is really worth the $500+ more? also suggested is to rent but i would kind of rather have the lens so i have it for other events and for personal use. I have pirchased an inexpensice lens and softbox for it. any other sugestions?
.......

I fully support the need for 2.8. It is a great addition to have so you're not hunting for shutter speeds while using your zooms(ex. your 18-200). It makes for a nice soft dreamy image for the client.

Your 60D seems to be suprisingly good in low-light situations from examples I've seen in the past, but going up to a 5.6 is WAY high for low lighting..especially being a crop sensor. If you're going to use that, I'd suggest you be in a well lit area, or tender your images to a more organic & old school film like feeling. You can approach any situation in photograph in a multitude of ways and obviously, this is only one example, but it can definitely help to figure out and get you to the image(s) that will help you most(whether it be selling or shooting).

Instead of the 17-55, perhaps go with a couple of FFL lens'? Perhaps try the 50mm 1.4 & 20mm 2.8 or 28mm 1.8. Both would give you great results @ the same price as one lens of 17-55...not to mention you would not have to sell the lens if you move onto a full-frame setup later on!

I hope this helps!

The time for advice about lenses is over. The OP has finished the wedding. Unless you have a time machine to take him back a week or two- no sense suggesting which lenses he could have used!

OP hasn't been active in 3 weeks. I don't think he is going to deliver.

I've sent him an email from the PM area letting him know that we are waiting anxiously. I guess he's a bit busy right now.......I am really looking forward to seeing the images and hearing about how his sister feels about them......

I'll send another right now...

One would have hoped that at least 2 or 3 shots were post-worthy. He wouldn't have to shoot for great - I think the people here would allow plenty of slack considering it's his first, just a reasonable capture of some worthy moment.

Maybe we should start a poll thread such as:

1. He got a rude awakening. They're all an embarrassment.
2. He did a reasonable Uncle Bob job but he's gun-shy about posting.
3. He got what he wanted regarding lens advice, didn't like the unwanted suggestions, and he's simply abandoned POTN (or at least this POTN account).

One thing seems clear. If he resurfaces using this account without posting at least a single photo, he'll never hear the end of it.

Further silence will only serve to suggest that he got in over his head.

^^ Yep. 1 or 3.. and i've been thinking 3 more and more. He was a bit perturbed by the lack of confidence from others, that he clearly showed in himself.

Yep, agree, leaning towards 3 with 1 as a distant second.
