Based on the poll, this is what I though exactly - people upgrade mostly because of AF and see the camera as a minor improvement in all areas and a big improvement in AF.
Let's see
| POLL: "I have upgraded from 5D MKII and see..." |
Significant improvement in overall IQ | 5 6.2% |
Significant improvement in high ISO performance | 12 14.8% |
Significant improvement in DR | 0 0% |
Phenomenal AF and higher FPS rate | 36 44.4% |
Minor improvements overall, not a revolution | 14 17.3% |
Not practical improvements over 5D MKIII and I did not upgrade | 14 17.3% |

While the AF is no doubt a tremendous improvement, there is little IQ improvement (wasn't really needed) and the ISO added stop isn't a big deal to me. In-camera HDR, MA on a zoom range and a little customization weren't enough to justify a cost increase to me. I'd rather have the 7d for my wildlife and birds and the 5d2 for everything else. I am still interested in other areas of improvement, but what I have to consider is that I will need to add £2000 (~$3000) to what I will get for my camera to upgrade to a 5D3. Is it really worth that So far, I am not convinced that it is. I have been working with 5D MKII for 3 years and I think I will use the opportunity I have. I can sell it for a very good money and get MKIII for good money as well ($2900 USD) and so it will cost me 1300 USD to upgrade. I will do it. www.lightpilgrim.com

The prohibitively high prices in the UK make it less attractive! Ian

dawnkyung Senior Member 951 posts Likes: 45 Joined Aug 2009 More info | I recently upgraded one of my 5D2s to a 5D3. I initially was of the camp, "My 5D2s work just fine for what I do, I don't NEED it." Those things are still true. However, now that I have one - I have to say that I love it. The camera itself in its menu systems and small layout changes make it a real joy to use. Image quality is wonderful, as is to be expected - but it's not light years ahead of my remaining 5D2. The AF is amazing, although it's more something I use in my personal downtime than paid photo shoots. dawn | 29 | gear

tvphotog Cream of the Crop More info | Jun 26, 2012 15:51 | #28 The camera has changed in so many ways that many people who have had it think it should have its own series number, and not just a new "mark" number of the 5D. I think your poll should have included an "all of these" choice. Jay
