inthedeck Cream of the Crop More info | Dec 10, 2012 22:05 | #2736 haha, yeah, tends to happen that way. I have quite a few lenses, minus the couple I've sold over the past few weeks. Thought about a 35L to replace them, but, didn't know if it would really work for me. I mostly shoot portraits, so, my 85L works wonders. One of my favorite focal lengths. jwcdds wrote in post #15351499 Could've settled with the 7D and gotten the 500. Nah, never really liked the cropped bodies. Had a 20D, way back when, and once I went FF again (coming from film), I never went back. Same goes for the 1-series. MCSquared Photography

The 2nd image is the same image but with the 1DX camera calibration applied; no other adjustments. On my monitor, the difference is incredible. The 2nd image is not adjusted for vibrance or saturation, but this is evidently the "true" colour as that's the purpose of the camera calibration. So in conclusion, is the 1DX lacking in capturing true colour? I'd say yes, without a doubt. Left to its own devices without proper calibration, the images are indeed insipid to my eye. After proper calibration, the images are stunning. I don't work for X-Rite, I'm not on commission and I'm not a pro photographer, but this is surely a must have piece of kit for around £50. However, there's no point if your monitor is not properly calibrated. Well there you go, I hope you found my home work useful? I'll be using the passport to calibrate the 1DX over the next few weeks and I'll post some before and after shots here so you can be the final arbiter. Any questions, I'll be glad to answer. Firstly, as the sensor and metering is so good, I thought the images were now "true" colour rather than being puffed up in vibrance to what people want to see. However, that would be rather conceited of me, wouldn't it? After using the 1 DX for a while, I found myself enhancing saturation and vibrance most of the time, so I had to agree that the images were a little insipid. The question still remained... is this the camera or is it just my personal preference? Well, there's only one way to find out for sure... I calibrated my monitor with the X-Rite Colour Monkey and I purchased the x-Rite colour Passport Checker to calibrate the camera. Here's what happened... I put a load of colourful junk on my desk together with the Passport Colour Checker, created a custom WB and took a shot. I then applied the colour profile from the Passport and look what happened! No points for artistic merit here, the only purpose here is to assess colour. ![]() The 1st image is straight from the 1DX without any adjustment. If so, how is this done? Thanks No, it's not WB, that's something different. Here's how it works... The software knows exactly what colours are on the passport and then adjusts the colours on your image to match the passport. It then creates a profile for your camera for that given lighting situation. You then open your other images and apply the profile and Voila, you have perfect colour match to the scene. Hope that helps, it really is that simple. Cheers, Jeff PS it does not adjust for WB, you have to do that first. However, there is a WB card inside the Passport which I used for this shot and the results are perfect!
