Yes, you are correct, RAW does not take profile settings into account, but jpg does.

When you open the RAW file you have the option ot apply the "Canon" profiles such as Standard, Faithful, Neutral and all those and then you have the white balance to contend with, but as I've already said, these work well but they're merely averages.

The passport colour checker is 100% accurate for the specific lighting conditions in which you find yourself. If you decide to use the standard profiles, which one would you choose if you were indoors under tungsten lighting with natural light coming from a large window? The standard profiles wouldn't come close to a colour match on this... you'd need a profile for that specific condition to be anywhere near accurate. And as for flourescent lighting, that varies so much depending on the types of tubes in use so I'd say a camera calibration is the only way in this instance.

Ok I think I get it. Very similar to what we do on video shoots...use the color bars to calibrate by shooting them in whatever environment we are in.
So I'd snap a pic of the color chart at the shoot then back in studio would use your method to create a custom profile for that shoot. Makes sense.

I'm slowly making my way through the 56+ pages of this thread so I apologize if this has already been discussed. Does anybody use the Newton bracket system with this body?

^^Nope, can't say that I have, unfortunately. I did, however, go to your site. I opened up the landscapes gallery, in IE, and when I click on the thumbnails, the pics don't open? Not sure if it's an IE issue, or one with the site, so, just wanted to make you aware of that. :)

Jef, the colour checker uses Adobe RGB as the colour standard. Should I change the colour profile in my 1Dx from the current sRGB to Adobe RGB and use Adobe RGB as the standard in CS6 for PP?

I didn't change anything on my camera, nor in RAW, I just let the colour checker software do all the work.

Anyone here using the WFT-E6 with their 1DX?
If so, what are you thoughts? ...easy quick set up ...slow/fast
or perhaps even works great, well worth the money... ;)

Anyone have information on flash sync speed for 1DX? My copy seems to be max syncing at 1/200 instead of 1/250. Are there any settings that I am missing? I have googled and read my manual but am still mystified. Any help would be appreciated.

According to Canon USA:

Shutter Speeds
1/8000 to 30 sec., bulb, X-sync at 1/250 sec. (still)

Notice the slight shadow at the bottom of the 1/250 as compared to 1/200.
