Very beautiful, even more so for a heavy crop, much betterthan any heavy crop I have ever done. :P

How big a print would you say you could comfortably make from that crop

it looks like unless you need 12 fps, then the 5d iii may be the body to have.

Ignoring the fact that the tests don't test the complex AF system, weather sealing etc...

The 5D is a great piece of kit, however if people think that it's only the extra frame rate where the differences are they are being a touch short sighted.

The whole AF system is better on the 1D series so in any challenging AF scenario the 1D will have the edge by a mile.

Hence why I don't get the '5d is still the camera to have'.

People seem to ignore many things because they don't use them themselves, then blanket the whole world of photography because of what fits their needs.

Theres much much more to the dx than double the frame rate.

But in all honesty, how many here are even capable of extracting the difference in two prints side by side?

Ill make it easier, I'll say two files.

I think 'challenging' really depends on the person behind the camera. People have been turning out quality work for a long time with out the 1Dx.

A camera body isn't just about the files it produces.

What good is a great file if you can't capture it because of the environment you are in?

People seem to be moaning about the dx price vs the 5d. Add a grip to the 5d, add in the replacement shutters and the resale value and it's not this big gap people want to bang on about.

Looks like a stop to the 1Dx......I definitely don't see 2 stops

I dont know...from what im seeing and have seen.....pretty hard to justify a 1Dx when the 5D3 is this close......I would lean towards 2 5D3's for what we do over a 1Dx....still glad we grabbed the MKIV and are using it with the 5D3.... 1.3 format FOV Really comes in handy from the back of a church with the 135L and the 70-200......gets me to 175mm @f/2.0 and 260mm @f/2.8.

Dont get me wrong. This 1Dx is darned impressive. IM just tight with the budget funds. I think wedding guys, who need 2 bodies, are better off with 2 5D3's for the price of a 1Dx when it comes to these two bodies.

Wish everyone a lot of fun and success with the 1Dx....I just am very happy with the MKIV & 5D3 combo.....it gives me better options for what I do.

But the advances in todays cameras make shots possible that were near impossible before. It is hard to deny how technology has made what was once thought of as impossible now possible!

its a fast world, do you believe that a shutter just dies at what it's rated? spoiler alert, it can go any time on any camera. A local wedding photographer has two 5d ii's pushing 300,000 shutter clicks and neither has had the shutter replaced.

Yes, the AF and the build of the 1dx is better, but in what conditions and for who? the 1%?

I can afford multiple 1dx's. But as i am getting older (hit 34 last month), I am getting wiser w/ my funds. I have 3 -5d iii's, 2 - 1d iv's, 1d iii, 7d, 60D. sure i want a 1dx, but i am not sure the pros outweigh the cons on what my gear lineup is now.

No sorry I thought canon included a self destruct mechanism the second it clicked over the rated number.

As I said people still ignore what other people need and base their opinion on what suits them best. That's great we should all spec our kit lists to our specific requirements but there's alot of people ignoring pieces of kit when recommending to other people because they don't use those functions.

Heck if I was a wedding or landscape tog I probably wouldn't even consider either and put a d800 in my bag.

I love my 1DIV, even though it's shipping out tomorrow. I have never shot with the 5DIII, so can't comment on the quality, functions, or feel of that camera. But I can tell everyone that after owning and shooting with the 1DX, I'll likely not own another body. Absolutely zero buyer's remorse. I was hesitant, going from the 1DIV and 5DClassic, but I am 100% glad I did it. Good luck to all those who are waiting. For those with no interest in owning one (but who still seem to comment in the 1DX owners thread), don't shoot with one unless you are OK buying one. It's certainly a big step forward in many regards.

why a d800?

Better dynamic range than either of the canons discussed.
