The really cool thing about the mural below is that it is not drawn onto the wall, it is actually chiselled and etched into it.

Not sure if this has been posted in here before, if so can you direct me to where (I've searched and found nothing)...anyone else feel like they aren't getting as many raw images on their cf cards as they would expect? I've put in a sandisk 64gb card, thinking I'd get (64gb x 1024 / 23mb) around 2,800 raw images on the card, but the X is saying the card capacity is 1,853...I have it set to raw images only (not raw and jpg)...I've reformatted the cards (I've tried it with 2 different cards) both in the camera and on my computer...still 1,853...am I crazy or does this sound low? Anyone else had this come up? In the mkIV I was getting around 3,000 images on the card...

What have you got your ISO set to? Makes a big difference.

With a newly formatted 32GB card mine shows 723 shots available at ISO H2, and 1166 at ISO 100.

Strangely though, 1072 at ISO 50...

Hello all

Remember the 5D3 launch issue with the abnormally strong clicking noise of the 200mm 2.0 ? This lead to a recall of some lenses for the 5D3 :

http://www.usa.canon.com …il&docId=0901e02480532d6b (external link)

Well I could not find mention about the 1Dx being affected too, but I can say it is.

I just switched from 1D4 to 1Dx and had the surprise to see my 200mm (code ending in 01) is also affected. The clicking is very clear & strong and this is exactly the malfunction described for the 5D3.

I'm talking with Canon Japan, they have a hard time reconizing the issue and claim I should come over and pay for repairs since this "affects only 5D3" ... no way obviously, I'll push to get proper service :)

Anyway if you have a lens in the affected serial range, just get it fixed !

Alain

Are you filling it up or are you basing it on what the camera's guesstimation? What about changing iso down to iso100 or iso50? What does it read then?

I would do this:

Hang up the phone. Call Canon back and say, "my 200L's IS is making funny noises on my 5D3". Don't tell them you have a 1DX. I would imagine the service rep would then tell you to send it in and it'll be fixed properly.

Mike > Estimate depends on ISO and final file sizes depends ISOs and subject/aperture too (f1.2 creamy = smaller files, landscape at f5.6 with trees = big ones). Using low ISOs and bright aperture all the time, my raw are ~20% smaller than canon estimate. So I know the camera estimate has a good safety margin for my use. Your mileage may vary.

My advice is to put two big cards in the camera and stop worrying about the size. I use 2x 64Go Transcend 400x UDMA 7 with 'write to both' (no brand is fully safe) and their cost is really low (I paid 15k JPY for both, that is about ~200 USD I think). At this point storage should not be an issue.

Transcend 400x are a sweet choice unless you do need the 1000x performance. See here :

Julian > Don't worry I will get proper service :)

The point for me was to share that 1Dx can be affected, as I could not find mention of this on the web (or at Canon website). So it's good to give a warning, and I hope Canon will reconize the issue - I will send in my 1Dx at the same time.

:)

I'd be happy with 1166x2 (64gb card), but its estimating about 20% less....

I'm using the camera's guesstimation...guess I should fill it up first before I start to panic eh.
