No sorry I thought canon included a self destruct mechanism the second it clicked over the rated number.

As I said people still ignore what other people need and base their opinion on what suits them best. That's great we should all spec our kit lists to our specific requirements but there's alot of people ignoring pieces of kit when recommending to other people because they don't use those functions.
Heck if I was a wedding or landscape tog I probably wouldn't even consider either and put a d800 in my bag.
I have a D800 and love it but, I've always favored 1D bodies for AF and solid build. There is no way a 5D III can match it's AF performance of the 1D X.

I love my 1DIV, even though it's shipping out tomorrow. I have never shot with the 5DIII, so can't comment on the quality, functions, or feel of that camera. But I can tell everyone that after owning and shooting with the 1DX, I'll likely not own another body. Absolutely zero buyer's remorse. I was hesitant, going from the 1DIV and 5DClassic, but I am 100% glad I did it. Good luck to all those who are waiting. For those with no interest in owning one (but who still seem to comment in the 1DX owners thread), don't shoot with one unless you are OK buying one. It's certainly a big step forward in many regards.
I had no remorse when I bought my two 1Ds III back then and picking up the 1D X shouldn't bother me at all. What's really important to me is how well the sensor performs.
I've been reading elsewhere and the 1D X has a slight edge in ISO.

Better dynamic range than either of the canons discussed.
Yes the D800 has better/more DR but, a lot won't use it bcoz' most don't need that many pixels.
