Looks like a stop to the 1Dx......I definitely don't see 2 stops

I dont know...from what im seeing and have seen.....pretty hard to justify a 1Dx when the 5D3 is this close......I would lean towards 2 5D3's for what we do over a 1Dx....still glad we grabbed the MKIV and are using it with the 5D3.... 1.3 format FOV Really comes in handy from the back of a church with the 135L and the 70-200......gets me to 175mm @f/2.0 and 260mm @f/2.8.

Dont get me wrong. This 1Dx is darned impressive. IM just tight with the budget funds. I think wedding guys, who need 2 bodies, are better off with 2 5D3's for the price of a 1Dx when it comes to these two bodies.

Wish everyone a lot of fun and success with the 1Dx....I just am very happy with the MKIV & 5D3 combo.....it gives me better options for what I do.

You always complain about the 1D X: how expensive it is, and how better it is to buy two 5D, etc, etc but let me tell you that I have tried both cameras and the 1D X is in another league. On the other hand, the 5D III is also on another league when compared to my 5D II.

I think wedding guys with more budget would be pretty happy with two 1D X or at least one. I have to disagree with you.

Julian, I have sold my 1dsiii to fund the 1dx purchase, do you think I 'll regret it, at least at low ISO??
For a pro is an easy choice, but for a hobbyist the big cost must be spent wisely in all aspects.

I don't think so. The 1D X sensor from what I've been reading is better than the 5D 3. :) Get out there and enjoy your 1D X bcoz' it doesn't matter if you're a pro or hobbyist. ;)

The high ISO comparisons I've seen between the 1dx and 5d3, at least in my mind, show a slight improvement depending on the ISO.

Like I said, in my mind, because others have commented how it blows away the 5d3. So, it seems to be rather subjective.

My point was that wedding guys need at least 2 bodies and some have 3-4 to cover events. We use 3. If money is not an issue and you have an unlimited budget for capitol......Go for it. But myself, and countless professional wedding photographers out there run a legitimate business. That means you have to make business decisions that make sense to the bottom line, pay yourself have enough left over to keep your business running.

Im not seeing a huge difference in the files nor am i seeing a huge difference in ISO.....looks like a stop over the MKIV and 5D3.......someone with more smarts about that than myself will nail it down in the next 2 weeks.

Just so you know,, i could go out and buy a 1Dx with cash today if i wanted to. Our business is doing well. But when i see what the MKIV and 5D3 can do 5-6 times a week and what the image quality is and i compare it to what we are seeing with the 1Dx,,,I dont see a ton of improvement over what i currently use.......a stop iso improvement is nice over the MKIV,,,,,but other than that..your comparing apples and oranges. 1Dx has a newer more up to date AF system over the MKIV......but the MKIV is no slouch either.

If the choice was MKIV or a 1Dx-----i would choose the 1Dx. were talking 2K price difference.....worth it if you have a 2nd body........but if you can score a clean MKIV for the mid threes and grab a new 5D3 and spend less cash ....you have to consider it because there is not that much improvement from the 1Dx to neg-ligate what the other two bodies are capable of doing for your needs.

If the choice was a 1Dx or two 5D3's to keep yourself open and ready to go and remain in business...the answer is easy......two 5D3's all day long. Having a single body 1Dx at a wedding and nothing else will not do your business any good if the camera stops working. your pretty much screwed at that point...and its happened to me twice having cameras take a krap during an event. so i know how important 2-3 camera bodies are.

Ive said it all along. You have to be smart how you spend your money on the newer generation cameras. I dont see a lot of hobbiests spending 7K for a 1Dx. I see many in the professional world that will and i see many, like myself, that will weight the plus' and negatives and make different decisions.

Business photographers will make business decisions about the equipment they use. Everyone else can do as they please. I may or may not skip this camera body. Im very happy with what we use and our cameras do an excellent job. But, who knows whats in the trick bag for canon and whats going to come out in the next 2-3 years. Time will tell. Jay said it best......if it aint broke, no need to fix it yet.

Those were the examples I was looking at.

Look at the 1dx 12800 and compare to 5d3 6400. Do they look as noisy?

Look at the 1dx 6400 and compare to the 5d3 3200. Do they look as noisy?

Look at the 1dx 3200 and compare to the 5d3 1600. Do they look as noisy? I think those two are pretty close.

It seems to me the 1dx is around 1/2 to 2/3rd better ISO performance than the 5d3 depending on the ISO setting. I consider this to be a really good improvement. Does it blow away the 5d3? No, but it's a marked improvement. I think anyone owning the 1dx would be happy.

Tbh, I'm not blown away either but, the 1D X sensor is the better performer. :)

1DX have its down Digic IV chip dedicated solely to AF functions and it can also use colors to help during AI Servo tracking modes, sort of facial-recognition-esque. So AF on the 1DX should be snappier.

And the 1-series cameras have more power so they drive the lens AF motors a bit faster.

One of the major differences I have not seen mentioned much is the customizability of the 1DX. It has about 3 times the settings as a 1Dm4. The custom modes, C1 - C3 are a huge benefit to me. You can set up each with totally different settings and switch instantly between them. Its a lot like the settings files, but settings files take 2 seconds or so to load after serveral menu operations to select them. For example, after taking daylight portraits in the lobby, I come down to field level and the arena lights are out with the cheerleaders on the field ready to start their performance. So, I have to run about 30 yards in the dark changing settings to catch a spotlighted performance using custom picture styles and white balance, changing shutter speed and ISO while running. (Well, it happened once anyway.) With the 1DX, no probem - its one button push. Other than great picture quality and speed, I think where the 1DX really shines is its ability to be customized for almost any situation.

Yes, lets see some shots.
Here is one from a few hours ago. Its in the forest, horrible light, but the tracking is fantastic.
High ISO (5000), and a ~60% crop, but you can see there is a dog there somewhere...
