I'm not quite sure. It's possible it was IS related although the lens never made any odd noises.

Canon is typically fairly cryptic on their repair notes. I was actually pretty impressed that they cited an electrical problem in the lens versus their usual "fixed...works" comments.

I tested the camera today with the 70-200 mk1 and the issue doesn't seem to be there, so looks like a lens issue rather than camera...

They're both going back to canon tomorrow and will be apparently looked at as a priority as the issue wasn't fixed last time...

The engineer said they have no facilities for testing AI Servo - only one-shot. I might ask him to go out into the car park with a colleague to test it... Real world testing!

!!! WTH? Shouldn't send a 1D-anything out the door w/out making sure AI Servo is working. Certainly finding some moving cars should work. Maybe a small zipline with a target on it?

Complete BS! Imagine Canon trying to sell a DSLR with AI servo advertised to only work outside

Yep, I was surprised at that too! He said they make sure one-shot is working, and if it is, then ai-servo should work too.

You sent the thing on on the premise that this assumed condition is not true -- they can't claim a fix without reproducing the failure, diagnosing/fixing, then passing the original failure.

My question would be: What on earth did they do to the first time, and why? (from an engineering support perspective, not a Standard Processes and Procedures perspective)

I think we should all get waived CPS fees as compensation for our collective pain and suffering.

I presume they looked at the sample photo and my report which indicated front focusing, saw that both camera and lens were front focusing and assumed calibrating them would fix it, without testing it in AI-Servo, despite my explanation of the problem...

Hope they do better this time. I'm getting sick of not having my camera to use

Waimea Canyon on Kauai is one of those locations that a photo can never do justice to. The contrast of colours between the red clay dirt and green foliage is spectacular.

My visit to the canyon was made that much more special due to a massive big cloud front descending over it. A couple of minutes after I took this photo I was totally engulfed in cloud.

Thanks mate, it's a painful process I'm going through....

I can actually understand that they don't have any ability to test Servo AF in a laboratory. Must be virtually impossible to get repeatable results if the subject is running around all the time. They must base this on that if the camera can measure the distance to and focus on a static target, then it should be able to apply whatever Servo AF capability it has to a moving target, and if it's something the camera can handle, then it should be able to get focus correct there too, most of the time.

Received my 1DX this morning. I have only had time to take a few shots however, I can tell this is going to be a whole new experience. Will be upgrading the firmware tomorrow. I guess there's no real point to this post except I feel like and excited little kid
