I have only 2 cameras with video capability and i didn't shoot video, i did once or twice with 1DX but i never saw that video on computer yet, maybe i will try to make a video when i travel to USA this year even short one, i also bought a big size SD card [128GB] for my Sony Alpha 7R only for video as i have few 64GB/32GB for still photos.

Going to air out some TMI, but it will lead to a question/plea.

I finally bought the 1DX; from Adorama - great customer service! Got a very good deal (new in box), yada, yada, yada.

So excited...charged the battery and then slapped on my 70-200 II and took some pics. Not impressed. Figured I had bad settings or something. Nothing was tack sharp. When I say nothing I mean I couldn't see front or back focusing issues. I ended up spending a few hours shooting every possible setting, resetting to factory default, shoot more pics and nothing amazingly sharp. Even threw on the 300 II lens and 16-35 II...nothing. Mounted on tripod, tried to focus on Spyder LensCal and even the fine lines were not distinguished anywhere to determine front or back focus issues.

Called CPS and described my dilemma and sent pics and the person felt the camera was defective. They sent me a label to ship to them, but contacted Adorama and they took it back for exchange on a new one. Just got the new one a few days ago and WTF...same dilemma.

Ok, now I'm convinced it's me. Again, went through the manual and even did the first pic on Program Mode just like the manual suggested for the first pic on the second camera and again - nothing sharp.

So this time I went to a decent camera shop that sells high-end equipment. Not sure of their expertise, but there's nothing professional in the Olympia, WA area and Tacoma was close by to get a second and third opinion. Two sales peeps independently heard my story and each tried my camera, brought out a new 5D III (which I had prior to this 1DX) and they shot with my lens, I shot with their lens, and both surmised it was the camera. We all three agreed that $8,000 (estimate of body and lens) should have sharper pics...and we tried all modes.

I'm to the point where I'm going to travel to Seattle (closest place that rents the 1DX) to do a side by side comparison. Could it be me (I hope so - and wish I had conflicting settings that were causing issues)? But could it be just my luck that I got two bodies that were both overnight shipped and perhaps bounced around and out of alignment or something?

I wish I knew how to post full sized pics on here. Hopefully these screen shots my give an example of one pic I took today.

Is there anyone in the Olympia/Tacoma area that is willing to meet and compare?

Here's the picture info on the one above. And even though I had to save it as a "7" out of the 12 for JPEG quality and it may appear fuzzy, the posted pics are actually true to what I actually see on the computer. And I also notice that the LCD on the camera is even more fuzzy when I preview pics than they are on the computer.

Well, to be honest, with all my lenses, the sharpest one is my Macro lens, and all other lenses has that kind of sharpness to a degree even if it is a prime lens and i use high shutter speed, i have many shots where one frame can be very incredibly sharp and next frame is not as sharp or even you feel it is misfocus, so live with it, time after time you will have more keepers, don't expect that you will get sharp shots 100% from all of your lenses all the time, sure if you shoot that bird again another time you will get sharper shot.

And with same your issue, i shoot a lot with my 1DX and 300 2.8IS mk1 for soccer, and most of them when i zoom in or crop or 100% pixel peeping it doesn't look sharp at all, so i didn't kill myself or send my camera/lens for calibration, many told me that it is normal.

Even with my Hasselblad H4D with say 80mm or 24mm i don't see it very sharp at full zoom, sure it is sharper than my Canon shots, but not that razor sharp sometimes unless i use a tripod and shoot at f4-f16 and high shutter speed, but with f2.8 as your shot above, i often can have sharp image wide open unless it is a lens with f1.2 up to f2 and i stopped down to f2.8.

I hear what you're saying, but I took over 350 pics during a baseball game with 70-200 and 300 with first 1DX and some tripod stills of the team with 16-35 and not a single pic was sharp.

Second camera...not one keeper. Keeper if it was with my old Rebel XTi...actually I had many keepers with that old one as well as with my 5D III.

Hope my response doesn't come off as combative, but I wanted to show one as an example of all my pics and not because I was upset over a single out of focus one.

This thread has many amazing pics that are sharp. Even if sharpness was added afterwards. I have no detail to sharpen. I know this camera is better. Either it's defective or I'm defective. I'm so open to help, hence my post. I have a baseball tournament I'm shooting this Wednesday thru Sunday that I fear I may have to rent a body since I can't get this exchanged by Adorama in time.

I would like to see some sharp pic info (like I posted above) so I can mirror and try. Anything would help!

Your file size is only 7MB. The full size RAW image from the 1Dx should be 3 times that size. I'd suggest changing the settings on your camera to the largest image size available and then trying again with a static fixed subject (e.g. vertical newsprint) and camera tripod mounted. Focus with live view at full zoom. Download to computer and crop in 100%. See if that's any better.

Thanks Mark. I shoot raw and L JPEG and even bump JPEG quality to 10. My sample pic was shot in just L JPEG as I went back to default settings. The other ones in raw I looked at and they were fuzzy.

I had the 5D 3 and loved it. But I only shoot sports so I figured the 1DX would be the 5D3 on steroids.

Another tests and more samples will help, could be your camera needs calibration or adjustment or whatever they call it, we can't make blame only on lenses or your settings or your skill, camera could be an issue too, mine is sharp but not always sharp when i want, so i can live with that, if you face non sharp at all with all shots then this is another story, time for service or replacement.

I live in Olympia and I would love to help you out... but I don't own a 1Dx...

I do have a 5D3 and all of Canon's L zoom lenses if you think that would help.

Thanks McLaren777...wish you had the same body, but perhaps we could set your 5D3 and my 1DX the same, on tripod, and then use same lenses and go from there. I would like to find that it needs microadjust, but I can't find any sharpness in the pic to tell front or back focusing in any aperture.

I would like to test more. I would be very interested in someone with a 1DX to post their EXIF data of a sharp image. Just curious.
