I like all shots here, nice works all of you!!!

Sounds another camera dying in my collection, after getting A7R this 1DX will have less use unless i keep shooting sports, i feel i want to give up or stop shooting sports for this year or this coming season, they didn't pay me the remaining payment, i can't force them to do it quickly as they care about players more, but definitely i will never shoot with them again if they didn't pay it all before the beginning of new season.

I hope i can use 1DX more when i travel, but then A7R is my main one.

Shooting baseball in bright sun and can't seem to get many keepers. Chasing settings and shooting with 300mm and 70-200. Finally added the 1.4 to the 70-200. These are screen shots just to give a rough image of what I'm left with. Focus points are on target, 1/4000 shutter (though I've dipped to 1/640 and up to 1/8000 and see no difference). Settings are shown in info. Anyone have suggestions for getting better pics? This is so frustrating!

Again, a screen shot, but I have no sharp edges to make these into decent 16x20 posters.

i dont have the 1Dx, but a old 1dmkII
this works for my cam.

Try shooting only in raw, and if its jpeg, set all iso noise reduction in camera to OFF!!

My thought:
You shot in Shutter-Priority AE and select shutter = 1/4000. The camera will force a large aperture in order to keep the ISO low. So, I believe your problem is not having enough depth of field (the lettering on the shirt looks sharp so I think the real focus plane is there instead of the face). Your situation does not need 1/4000. What you need is a smaller aperture to gain DOF.

(I know you already tried 1/640 ... which was too low for action shots. However, in that case the camera would also try to even lower the ISO and therefore still gave you a large aperture. So, you still had the same issue)

My suggestion:
The 1Dx can handle high ISO *beautifully*. So, I'd suggest the following:
Mode = manual
Shutter = 1/2000
Aperture = f/8
ISO = Auto (unless you are comfortable with choosing a specific ISO value yourself)

I also don't think AF point expansion is needed in this situation. I would just go with AF center point.

Hope this makes some differences.

Agree with the above and would add to come off case 1 (case 2 or 6, maybe - I've always found case 1 to be the weakest because it is the general) and change the tracking level a spot or two higher. Also, I'd aim for the head, as a good BB head really should stay still (his eyes watch the ball), while his shoulder is coming forward and rotating. A larger ap will help too.

Yeah I'm going to agree with most of the other comments, I think your complaints can be traced back to the lens being wide open (or wide open + a teleconverter). Stop it down to f8-11 and my guess is that you'll see a pretty big difference.

I did see a difference today and hovered around those settings in Manual and switched and customized some of the Case autofocus but did Cases 2, 4 and 6. Sun was a killer today with no avoidable options to cure the dark shadows. It was low 90's and no clouds all day here in the NW. Haven't seen them on the computer yet but saw better sharpness around the faces.

Post a picture when you have a chance and we'll see what can be done about the dark shadows :)

Pics greatly improved with your suggestions...many thanks! The shadows are from the hats/helmets casting dark shadows over their faces or the frontside of their bodies shooting with the sun in front/above. I was given access to the field along the dugout fence line on 1st and 3rd base. Games were happening on four fields at the same time so it was what it was.

Now comes a separate question. After going through my pics (I took just over 7,000 photos over the four-day tournament) I probably have close to a thousand keepers. Most were balls or strikes not swung, but good series of pitching movement and a few home runs followed by celebrations.

I have CS6 and LR5 and will post them on Smugmug. I will make basic edits for Smugmug that I have created an "action" for to simplify the process, but that's still nearly 1,000 edits. Is there a way to set up a batch process in CS6 where I can upload the pics to CS6 (large amount at a time) and with one key stroke it will apply the action and save under the same file name?

I am not a CS person so I don't know how to do that in CS. In LR, you can use "Sync" to replicate edits from one pic to other(s). Then you can flag the edited files and export all of them in one batch operation.

Others may have better ideas.
