I wasn't sure where to post this question but I figured I'd have more 1Dx users here. I currently have a 1D mk iii and I'm planning on selling it to purchase either a 1D Mk IV or a 1DX. Right now the 1DX is just out of what I can justify as a hobbyist but my question is if Canon is going to come out with a new 1D body to replace the X how long will it take for the price to drop a little on the X? I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a Mk IV but I don't want to do it if the used X 's drop to $3000ish range and the Mk IV drop to around $1500 right after I spend $2100-2400 on a Mk IV if I can help it. I wouldn't have thought about this except I saw a canon pro was selling 2 1DX's and the reasoning he gave was " because he didn't have any trips planned until spring " does this mean they are coming out with something by spring or is this Pro already testing the new body?
Thank you for any insight or advise you can offer
I'm a hobbyist too and would love to have the X but it's price is not going to work for me either. Having said that, you might consider that the price of the X won't drop for a long time to come. Even if a newer model comes out, unless it has some incredible new feature that pros can't live without, many pros will stick with the X. It's an expensive purchase for a professional and it's technology allows for some amazing pictures, esp in low light. The IV has also held it's value and for the same reason. Additionally, many pros like the crop sensor. Personally, I'd hold onto the MK III for awhile yet and maybe save up for the X. But that's just my opinion, ymmv.
