And throwing in one selfie. (This is a composite, same photo w/ two color temps. I wanted to maintain the color of the skies but also wanted to balance out the color of the sand from the lighting.)

Thanks Tareq. Many would lead folks to believe the the 400 is the only player in town, but that's not the case, the 500 and 600 are great lenses for American football. I've used both. The 600 requires a FF body though - anything else is too much. I like it because I don't have to stand along the crowded sidelines and I can get really, really tight shots. I gamble a lot with the distance, but when I win the gamble, I get some really nice tight shots that don't require any or very minimal cropping. I also have the 300 2.8, but it's too short on a FF and requires me to hover on the sidelines, so I use it with the 7D2 mostly to regain that reach. There are days I use it just for those sideline type shots or when it's dark out.

Btw, with the 600, I can sit in the opposite endzone and catch plays at the other end of the field.

Thanks, this is clear enough, in our stadium i think 400 is the best solution, i didn't see many or even any using 500 and longer, 400 itself sometimes is too much or too long, and with 300 it is in the middle option, not short and not long so i get more, and with 70-200 i cover even more just 400 is better for far action and more blur/bokeh shots, but i am happy with 300.

Maybe if one day i can shoot American football or anything similar [Cricket, rugby, baseball,....etc] i may need that longer lenses, and i have 1DX, 1D3 can be backup if i need that crop factor, but i am thinking since long time to sacrifice my 1D3 to get 7D2 as it is better than 1D3 from many posts, so i just wait to sell mine then buy 7D2, but i don't think i can afford those longer lenses yet.

A soccer field is larger than a football field, so I don't see why you couldn't use the 500 or 600. What I see is "this is what people have always done syndrome affect" and so it's believed to be the only method. If I were to shoot a soccer game, the 600 would be right there. I live by the motto in my signature (see signature).

Probably within the next few months, anyway... :)

At least that's what I'm hoping for. I'm all saved up for my 1DX Mark II.

Though, even if a new one does come out soon, I don't believe I'll be in line for one, for a while.

A new one from me...been a while since I shot in a studio last.
