Agreed. I Was out shooting an Eagle nest yesterday and left the 7Dii at home because it was very overcast. Better a little looser crop and no noise than a tight crop with noise. IMHO

Tonight was the first time I've been out taking photos for ages. I've missed it!

Both with the TS-E 17.

Today soon i am going to shoot soccer as usual, but what should i do different in settings this time?

I always or mostly keep my shutter minimum at 1/800 because the light in the stadium is good enough, and i also try to keep the ISO at around 1600-2500, should i try to increase the ISO to 3200 or even 4000 or 5000 and go with shutter speed above 1/1000 and use f3.2? or better to keep the ISO as low as possible and shutter is not much high and f2.8 only?

Yes! Your shutter speed should at least 1/1000 for pros. Use that 1Dx at ISO 3200-6400 with no issues. You can go higher with a little post work but still very useable up to 12,800

I know i can use my 1DX at ISO 3200-6400 without big issues, but is it really necessary if the lights are good? let's say if i can use at least 1/1250 shutter speed @2.8 and that gives me ISO 2000, should i try 3200 and use higher ss that 1/1250 or i should really go with 1/1000 and ISO 1600? the more ISO i can go higher then the higher shutter speed i can get, the lights in the stadium i can get ISO800 with 1/640 @2.8, i see the press using this setting mostly even they are using 1DX and they have primes such as 300 and 400 and most of the time they print smaller size on the newspaper, but i don't know if the highest SS i can get will insure me the best sharpness frozen i can get, or it doesn't matter?

^ For basketball and surfing, I usually try to be at 1/1250sec or above, when possible... Nothing below 1/500sec, unless I'm trying to be creative or something... What glass are you using Tareq? And is it safe to say that this will be a night soccer game?

:)

Why not just shoot in Tv mode, set the shutter at 1/1250s and iso to AUTO and let the camera do the work? :D

You can also use Manual with Auto ISO, so you can select the shutter speed you want, and lock in the Aperture where you like; but still have the camera controlling the exposure through auto ISO. Best thing about the 1Dx, is that you can still also use exposure compensation while doing this, if you don't like how it's setting the exposure.

Hey all,

I came back and it was not bad game, the light is good enough as usual there, and i try not go extreme, so i kept thew shutter in 1/800-1/1250 range, also i kept ISO in 800-1600 range.

It is evening game, it started before the sunset so the daylight wasn't that strong and it is cloudy today so it was nice, then the second half all under the stadium lights.

I know how to shoot, and what settings, but i was just asking as options, would you you go higher ISO and higher shutter speed or keep the ISO lower enough and still have good high speed, for example with the lights of the stadium i can shoot with 1/800 and ISO 1000, will you shoot with say 1/1600 and ISO 2500? or 1/2000 and ISO 3200-4000? the soccer i shoot will be good enough with 1/640 up to 1/800, just i go higher to make it better frozen, but if you have the choice what settings you will use? Don't say if it is bad lighting, i said it is good enough lights.
