curious on the motorcycle shot, why ISO2000 looks like a bright day

A number of factors - Auto ISO + high shutter speed required to grab the bike side-on without any blur (1/6400) + over exposing by 1 full stop as shooting into the sky. Bike was probably doing close to 80mph at that point.
Much easier if you're panning with the bike or a head-on shot, where you can reduce the shutter speed. The camera was set about a yard in from the side of the track, so the distance to the bike/rider was probably no more than 3-4 yards.

I used to shoot a lot in AP, but these days I rarely shoot anything other than Manual with auto ISO. I shoot sports action mostly where I need to control the shutter speed and the aperture settings so Manual suits me best and let the ISO fluctuate as required within pre-set parameters. I can control the exposure by adding or removing exposure compensation as required.

And then I came across "an offer you can't refuse".
A used 1Dx (mark 1) for 650 Euro's with a shuttercount of 264.000
That would be about 770 US Dollars in current rates. (june 2021)
The cheapest on ebay (Dutch: marktplaats) is in the price range 1000-1400 Euro's.
(about 1.190 - 1.670 US dollar)

It is a familiar feeling coming from a 1D4, but my goodness what a difference while shooting.
Just experiencing the 12FPS just made me smile for a long while.

And now for the biggest challenge; get the most out of it while being paired with a 100-400 L USM IS version 2.
I already fell into a rookie mistake. (pebcak)
I use the AF-ON button to stop focussing so I can halfpress follow my subject using AI Servo, and stop AF by pressing AF-ON when someone passes in between.
I shoot with both eyes open so I see them coming.
During the game the AF-ON button did not behave as I was expecting and I could not figure out why.
During half-time I grabbed a cup of coffee and started digging into the plethora of options and settings (cases!).
Then I saw it. I need the AF-ON button to be AF-OFF instead of OFF.
(next mission: MFA for wide and tele)

Let the fun begin!

No doubt it's much better than the 7D2 for sports. You are going to dig it. Did you sell the 7d2?

Gradually getting the hang of this magnificent beast.

Rookie 'mistake' number 2.
I had a spare CF Card lying around which I inserted into CF slot 2.
Went to the soccer match and really enjoyed shooting with the 1Dx.
At home I inserted CF card 1 into the cardreader and saw no pictures.
Imagine that 0.5 of a second wondering....

First checked the "Release shutter without card" setting but that was set to "off".
Then took out the 2nd CF Card.

Two Big Island vacay captures... First capture is Rainbow Falls in Hilo... No rainbows, unfortunately... I thought there would be one, since the conditions were relatively in order (sunshine with light rain from fast moving clouds), but nothing ever materialized... Rotated my CPL filter several times to make sure there wasn't something hidden, too, but that was there... Second capture are a few turtles in the morning sun at Punalu'u Beach (black sand beach) on the south-west side of the island... You need to get there early for two reasons; the crowds and timeframe... The turtles usually come out from the ocean early in the morning and head back to the sea by noon... We got there super early (around 9am) and there was only two people observing the turtles... They left a few minutes after we got there... So we basically had the turtles to ourselves to photograph!!! As we were leaving (30 minutes after our arrival), a large caravan of cars started to arrive in the parking lot... I would say 20-30 people began walking towards the turtles by the time we were exiting the parking lot... Anyhoo... More Big Island photos to come!!!

:)

Shooting the sunset @ Kailua-Kona during vacay, I saw this gent come into my frame and started to cast his fishing line into the sea... Initially I was pissed off that he ruined my beautiful sunset scenery... But then I looked into the viewfinder again and thought this would be a much better shot... Instead of just the sunset and its amazing sunrays, the addition of the gentlemen fishing and the palm trees add more to the capture than what I could've imagined... With that said, thank you to the fishing man FOR NOT ruining my shot, but making it better than I visually expected!!!

As the saying goes, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade..." This was definitely LEMONADE!!!

:love::-D
