Today's Lesson in Nature

I'm always amazed at when I learn about our natural world every time I step out the door. The camera is a great tool to discover what I, and many others, would ordinarily just walk right past.

For example, I came across this Picture-winged fly sitting on a thistle leaf.

A very colorful and unique character, indeed.

Then he turned and "flagged me" with one wing,

Then another:

HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif' | Redirected to error image by FLICKR


Before ambling off on the underside of the leaf and disappearing.

Pretty amazing creatures out there to teach us more about the world we live in.

i never knew something that beautiful existed - thanks for sharing it. the shots are amazing, the colors and composition are stunning. really like that first one you posted.
