My 500d/t1i lacks of the mirror so I use live view instead but I wanna insert one. Does anybody know how I could find a used one and how to glue it in? Obviously I wouldnt wanna replace the whole shutter/mirror box since the only issue is the missing mirror.

you could always keep an eye on ebay for a broken camera and do a swap, but realisticly, if your one isn't still in warranty, your best bet is get Canon to quote for doing the job.

The mirror isn't a seperate part so Canon will replace the whole mirror-box unit but it doesn't look like they're too expensive e.g. http://www.ebay.com …ories&hash=item5ae62b07a6 (external link)

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

+3, but I have lost a mirror on an old Olympus film camera and I glued it in with cyanoacrylate (basically Crazy glue but I used rear view mirror glue instead.) It's a two part glue, put a little on the edges of the mirror and the other part on the mirror holder. Align carefully and attach. You have seconds to adjust if you miss and this glue will not let go once it cures. (seconds)

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

I saw a large lot some store demo Rebel units (think they were XS's) on eBay very cheap once that didn't have a mirror, battery, or battery door (or any accessories). Mabye he bought one one of those types of things.

there would be no way you could do it yourself without causing other problems, mirror alignment needs to be accurate as the sub mirror also directs light down to the AF module. I would say canon would be the only place where you could get this alignment right, that's probably the reason why the mirror box is sold as one piece with this alignment set right out of the factory

i seriouly dont get you. Everything its in its right unmodded place and I managed to get a mirror. Anybody can suggest me an especially sticky glue that could be used? btw I used a hair dryer to remove the mirror from its place coming out of a 40d and it came off pretty easy...
