Seems like there has been a bit of drama regarding Drobo and reliability of late.

Don't forget you have to back up your storage array. Fire can burn a house down pretty easily.

I only have experience with one Drobo from a couple of years ago. It was a 4 bay model connected to the PC via Firewire 800. I wasn't impressed by the transfer rate. If they have fixed that, it would be nice. You may also want to look at a good NAS which can be accessed from any computer on your LAN or beyond.

Ive had a drobo for a while but wasn't very happy with the transfer rate.. Also with drobo is they use their own file system. So if your data is on the drobo it will stay on the drobo.. If the Drobo dies for any reason you have to get another drobo to retrieve the data.
I instead am using a spare pc where i bought a raid card and installed openfiler. Much more scalable and get better throughput. If you want to go with a self contained NAS unit than id dump DROBO and look into Synology. They also use their "own" file system however it is much faster than the drobo. They are also more expensive so i guess you get what you pay for.
