OMG, I always used to dispair of those 'help me choose a new camera body' type posts and now, here I am typing exactly that! Arrgh! ( or Pfff...as they say in France).
Anyway, preamble over: I have a Powershot G1X ( its brilliant) and an EOS 1Ds Mkii which is also wonderful ( except the hot shoe is dodgy and so it needs to be sent to Canon before they stop supporting it).
I had a 7D but sold it because I was not totally sold on the quality of the files it produced. As the 1D has to be sent off and I can't survive for that time without a DSLR body and as the technology in it is now getting a little old, I've decided to get a new body as a back up before I send it off.
The question is what?
My Options are: 7D again and see if I can persuade myself that its a good camera, A 5D Mk iii , A 5D Mk ii, A 1D Mk 4 or an Olympus OMD. My main subjects are nature ( including macro) and landscape. I'd buy a Nikon 800 if my Zeiss 21 mm Distagon wasn't Canon fit...
A crop would be nice for the reach but I'm only an occasional bird photographer. I'm not selling any of my cameras, I love them too much and I want something that complements them rather than replaces them. I do like making BIG prints and so the latest tech and 22 MP of the 5D3 would be nice, I can't wait for the 7D upgrade....
What would you do??

5D MK III or the 1D4 for Nature/Speed.

Or for the price of a 5D MK III, how about a 5D MK II (used) and a 7D, and you will still have change left over hehe.

I'd get the 5D2.

Thanks for the comments, I'm much more quality than speed focused and cost isn't really an issue ( but I can't afford a 1DX :-( )
I'd like the ultimate in quality/resolution for my landscapes so the 5D3 with my Distagon is probably best but then I'm not using the abilities of the mk3 focussing system, but, hang on, when I do BIF with my 400/5.6 perhaps that fast and accurate focusing would be handy, especially if its my only body...( whilst the 1Ds hot shoe is being fixed (hopefully) by Canon).
So I'm ruling out the 1D4 on the grounds that its not as good for landscape as my 1Ds2 but getting a 5D3 would render the 1Ds redundant except purely as a backup. I'd get a 7D, which is cheaper and would be good for nature and that Distagon might even become a rather nice ( if a bit slow) 35mm prime...But, my experience with the 7D has been , frankly, bad, I imagine the 7D replacement will be an awesome machine, but I'm not prepared to wait.
My head is saying 5D2 but I can afford the 5D3..... I'll let you know what I end up getting! Next weekend hopefully....

I'd wait for the next 1Ds. In fact thats exactly what I am doing. Whatever Canon claim about the 1Dx drawing a line under the D and Ds lines, the fact remains that they are going to have to produce something in the high quality/ high mp range.

I had a 7D and a 5D2 and sold them to get a new 5D3, which I can't praise enough. The 5D3 is the best camera by far that I've ever used, the AF system is awesome and the IQ is amazing. The only thing missing was a second body, so I got a 60D as backup and even that is surprizingly good. If you can afford the 5D3 I'd say get it. It's like having the best bits of the 7D and the 5D2 all rolled into one and then improved.

5DM3 is a great choice, it will not disappoint. But if you were interested in saving $1750, and since your main main subjects are not going to challenge an AF system.... The M2 will suffice.

On board HDR is fun though, on the M3.
