A rumor that a new version of the 100-400 may be in the works....

The present version has certainly been a workhorse in my lens lineup. A new version, provided it is optically superior and sports the improved IS system, would be welcome.

An updated 100-400 is #1 on my wishlist but I'll believe it when I see it.

Not to rant on Canon's latest price bumps, but I guess it'll be 2600 or something again...

I want sharper, faster focusing, and more advanced IS. I'm not picky on the zoom method. To me the 100-400mm is a 400mm f/5.6 lens that also happens to zoom. In other words, although it would be ideal for the lens to be a stellar performer throughout the zoom range, I would prefer the lens be optimized at or near 400mm if a design trade-off is required.

True, but it's bound to happen sooner or later. I just hope it's not a crazy price when it does happen.

24-70 jumped from 1300 to 2300. Knowing greedy canon it will be 2600-3000

For $4000 it better be a set F4.0! lol

I'd really really like to see a 200-400mm f/5.6L IS USM instead to lessen the blow to my wallet. Hopefully this new version won't go over $2200.

No reason to say anyone/any company is greedy because the whole human race is. ;) That said, I agree that the price would be realistically set in the 2600-3000 range.

And when you compare that to the price for a 200-400mm, it will be a relative bargain. What does the Nikon run for? Something like 7000? Canon will have to price their 200-400mm f/4L higher just from a strategic product positioning standpoint.

It's only greedy if someone overcharges for a product that you need. For example, if there's a disaster, and some Joe buys all the bread at the store, then turns around and sells each for twenty bucks, he's taking advantage of people. That's greed.

However, if he buys all the YoYos and sells them for ten times the cost, he's just trying to make money.

Nobody needs a yoyo. Nobody needs a lens (with a few exceptions for pros, of course).

It's the market. If Canon charges a million bucks for a lens cap, that's not greedy because we don't need it.

Thank you. bw!
