Saw them talk about this on the forums a few years ago and now all of a sudden it resurfaced...I still plan to buy a prime super telephoto before this thing ever releases ..but damn! If it's anything like the 70-200 II, I'M ALLLLL OVER IT!!

No moar push-pull!

I'd buy one if they'd get rid of that push/pull thing - that drove me nuts the one time I tried using it.

same here, I tried to use the push pull thing, I felt so awkward and disturbed I chose primes over that zoom...now if they made it like the 70-200 II we have a winner!

I would bet 2500 or so. Look at the 70-200, it retailed for what 1800-1900 and then the new version went to 2500. It looks like the 22-2500 range is canons new sweet spot (for them, that is)

Keep it push pull. So easy for shooting action.

I liked the action but the length of the lens at full extension was brutal for me

Sounds nice, Eagerly hoping this comes out

Agree....for me that is one of the big selling points of this lens over others. Super fast zoom capability rocks for shooting birds and planes in flight.

I also like the push pull design where you can quickly zoom in or out for sports and action shots

I really like the push/pull, too.

Still not believing the rumor, though. A remake of this lens has been rumored for at least 5-6 years now.

It has to be coming...

The 100-400 IS is one of the oldest IS-equipped lenses in the lineup, in fact i think it is actually THE oldest (only the 300mm f/4 is close..) and optically? its not the best lens around (its OK but it definitely shows its age)

Its the one lens that could benefit most from an improved IS system...

The Sigma 50-500 OS while not QUITE as sharp (Very very close) in my opinion is a better lens before the 4-stop OS gives a MUCH better keeper rate over the 100-400's antiquated system...

push pull is OK for me. But I really hope it's weather-sealed. 200-400 is too pricy. There are gaps from the high end and possible improvements from the current model. I'll wait and see

I agree the 100-400L could really benefit from an upgrade, but the rumors have been out there way too long for me to get excited. If Canon finally does announce something, I will be very interested in upgrading if the price is not outrageous.

Until then, I will happily continue using the existing 100-400L. It's probably my 2nd most used lens, and it takes much better photos than a rumor. ;)

I agree. I use the 100-400 second most, probably, after my 15-85.

But you should see the rumored pictures I'm going to take with the rumored 100-400 mk II lens! They are rumored to be fabulous!

;)
