CF Card problem

We took pics at a softball tournament and they show on the camera, EOS XT. However, when we got home and out the card in the reader, there was nothing on the card. Thinking we may have hit a wrong button, we simply put a new card in and set the other aside until we could diagnose what happened. Now, the 2nd card did the same thing? Any suggestions are appreciated. We have used the camera for about 4 months and have had great pics. All of the sudden issues with 2 different cards.

Can you view the photos on the camera's LCD?

Did you format the card(s) in the camera body before you used them?

Are you certain that the problem is not with the reader?...Try reading a card that you KNOW has photos on it, if you have one.

Try downloading direct from camera. I have learnt never to trust readers.

Readers are faster and a lot less prone to problems than downloading directly from the camera...

However that is a good double check.

Chances are it's the reader or the connectivity between it and the computer, or the reader driver s'ware that's installed on the computer. Turn off the computer. Unplug the reader and plug it back in a couple times. Also avoid any hubs when connecting the reader to the computer. Connect it directly. Reboot the computer. Try again.

If using a particular software to download your images (such as Canon EOS Utilities or Lightroom or whatever), try a different one.

Might need a new reader... sometimes they just seem to fail, inexplicably.

BE CAREFUL! Don't format the cards now, or you'll lose the images on them. However, yes... it's usually a good idea to format the card in the camera, before using it.

Tell that to the guy about two weeks back who had a card reader problem that affected the card in such a way that it damaged his camera electronics. OP, check the thread at https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1195602. I would check carefully for bent pins in both the body and the card reader you have been using.
