I tried my first "longer" exposure shot. This was done in the evening but there was still light in the sky. I don't have a ND filter so I used a CPL. This was a 10 second shot. 7D 10-22mm at 11mm, f/11, 100 ISO.

Hey there,

I see some potential with this one. I wish I got to the ocean more. I did a slight crop off the bottom as I kept getting drawn to that small rock outcropping, and did a slight transform on the horizon.

Circular Polarizer; they eat up roughly 1 to 2 stops of light, so are useful for long exposures when light is lower.

OP: The water effect is good there, but the light and colors are pretty flat. I'd go back and try this when there's a bit more going on with the light/colors.

Good call on colors. I think the subdued effect of the image works as a pleasing one, but a "pop" from an intense sunset would be nice. I must have been in the area and scared away the good light. I'm known for that!
