Hello!

There is an annoying problem in *viewing mode* in 5D mark ii - the image suddenly disappears, and the LCD screen is left black until I press blue (play) button again. What it could be? Seems, this is somehow connected with the movement of the camera...

Many thanks for possible ideas,

Alexander

What do you have the auto-off timer set for?

The image will always disappear when you press ANY buttons on the camera as it thinks you want to go back to shooting...(any buttons OTHER than Play, and the zoom buttons, or the dials on top and back...these are the only ones used in playback mode..afaik)
My bet would be you are pressing a button, whether on accident or whatever, and it is simply switching back to "capture" mode.. ;)

I could be wrong!

also, if you have the AF lock button switched to the zoom out button(one of your custom functions) you cannot use the zoom out button during playback as it will also turn the camera back to 'capture mode'..
maybe this is what is happening?

Good luck

It's set for 4 mins, but the dropout of the image may occur literally after several seconds of viewing. In arbitrary moment.

Thank you so much for expanded answer! No, I don't press any keys. Intuitively, I feel this is somehow connected with AF, 'cause the picture disappears when I tilt the camera. I hear the characteristic sound of AF. Strange...

It's set for 4 seconds, there is no minute setting. Change the review time to "hold" and it will stay on until some other button is pressed.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Right, but this refers only to preview after the shot on *shooting mode*, but my problem appears in *viewing mode* (after pressing blue "play" button). Moreover, even the menu may black-out in the same manner. Probably, there is something with the LCD-screen contact... Up to now I can't understand what exactly influences such "blackouts" of LCD panel!

I'm still a little confused. So after taking the picture you put it into review mode, just let it sit without touching any other button, and the image will blank out.

You sure you aren't bumping the DOF preview button? That would explain the "AF" sound your hearing.

Yes, I'm 100% sure I don't press it...

Wow!!! Right!!! I have to investigate this version! This button is right under the pressure of the middle finger of the left hand, so unintentionally I may press it while viewing!!! Let me play with this a bit...

Scatterbrained, seems you're just genius. I couldn't find the reason holding the camera in my hands in from of my eyes. But you (Mr. Sherlock Holmes)) succeeded to restore the full picture just by several side factors such as characteristic noise. Yes, the DOF preview button fits to the bend of my middle finger so well that I wasn't conscious I'm half-pressing it. I will play a bit more with this but 99% you are right. Many thanks! Now I would become a bit more conscious )))
