At your wedding, you need to be 100% there in the moment. You can't be taking pictures. Your bride rightfully expects that she will be the center of your attention and not by being viewed with a camera between you.

This is excellent advice. My daughter got married about 18 months ago and she was bound and determined that I should do the photography much to my not wanting to. I wanted to enjoy the day but the daughter won out and I did them. They came out the same as all the other weddings I have done with the exception of the ones where I had to turn my camera over to a lady that said she was an aspiring pro. They weren't so great and what the heck is it with new photographers wanting this titled look. In retrospect I wished that I had hired someone, it would have been a much more enjoyable day for me.

I know that Tofino is not that large but there are also larger communities to draw from if you willing to pay. I'm sure you have considered this but I Googled photographers in Nanaimo, Campbell River and Victoria and there are lots of options but the unknown is their availability. I wish you luck and if you want memorable images get the person that you want even if you have to pay a little bit more to get them there, it is worth it. Our wedding pictures came out quite often over the course of our marriage and you will kick yourself if you get anything less than what you want. It is nice to hear someone say they are willing to pay for what they want and not take on some of the 400.00 wedding photographers there are out there. I wish you luck on this and congratulations on getting yourself married.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

How did you work out the part where you handed over your daughter to the groom while you being the photographer? Just curious.

Take that $1000+ you would be spent on p&s and add it to your photography budget and fly some pro in from out of the area.

^^THIS^^

...of the dance of father with daughter?
...or the father and mother dancing?

If my own daughter asked me to photograph her wedding, I would have first asked all those questions, then firmly said "No, I will not be the official photographer of your wedding, -- not if I am also paying a substantial amount of the cost of your wedding...I am going to enjoy it with your mother!"

I'm giggling while imagining myself holding a camera up above me while dancing with my daughter or wife. Maybe I'll hold the flash and hand over the camera set to P mode to someone else, LOL!

Seriously. Oh, well. To each their own, I suppose.

"Yes, honey, I would be happy to be your photographer! Could you attend the remote flash and reposition it for the shots that I take of your new husband dancing by himself, or shoving the cake in his own face?!"

Buy a stack of disposable cameras and give them out to all your guests. Bound to get something decent with 50 odd people

Re-read post #3...our experience has thrice proven your hypothesis to be poorly related to reality.

My reply was meant to be tongue in cheek, however it does as you say rely on the artistic ability of your wedding guests.
