Her are a couple shots of my little princess. I would appreciate any comments or critiques.

No critique on the photography here, I can only confirm she does look like a Princess....:D

Number one looks spot on for color and exposure! Great job. One could hope for a better expression but kids are pretty much impossible. ;)

The second one could use more contrast in my opinion. How did you convert it to black and white?

Thanks for the comment.

I use lightroom to convert the RAW file to B&W.

As far as expressions, with a two year old, getting them to stand still long enough to capture any expression is a victory.:)

I totally agree! Did you use a lightroom preset? Do you mind if I post an edit of it?

I did not use a presest. Using LR3, I did my normal post processing adjustments(sharpeningm exposure, saturation, etc.), clicked the black and white button and bumped up the contrast. I also added a little vignetting.

Please do. I would be interested to see your edit.

Looks nice. Did you just bump up the contrast?

It looks like you ride the line of going too dark with the shadows.Especially in the hair. I need to get more confident with that. This edit would look great printed.

I used a gradient map in photoshop and then adjusted the black and white points until I liked it. It might be a bit too dark now that I look again. Its so easy to go too far.
