Capturing the fast moving plane as it moved across a bright, somewhat hazy sky was a little bit of a challenge.

Got any with it on the ground next to a person? For scale?

Here you go for size comparison. The acft has a 120" wingspan. Another video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KvFCtY4few (external link)

You know you're in a whole new league when your project needs its own custom trailer!

The trailering has given some problems. Three very nice aircraft have been damaged in route to being flown. Under consideration is a box van to replace the trailer. One funny story told by the owner is that when hauling his Twin Otter, he had to stay at under 50mph. Even with much of the wings removed, the plane tried to lift off above 50mph.

Both the twin Otter & that Skymaster are very nice. I do think enclosed trailers or big cube vans etc is the wat to go so I'll start a thread showing some I've seen over the years including one VERY nice rig.

Shooting them while flying takes some skill, lots of practice & a setup with a good AF system. You should be safe with a shutter speed in the 1/400 to 1/800 range with those sized gas engines except maybe on landings. 1/800 would likely freeze props on landing approaches.

Cool shots. I have always wanted an R/c plane ,but I was afraid I would destroy it so I got a nitro car instead. I guess it takes a lot of practice to be able to visualize your orientation from afar when flying one. I'd say a bigger one would be easier to see which might help. Have you guys seen the German jet turbine video? I have no clue how this guy keeps his eye trained on this jet...

That German jet is very similar to this one in both shape & speed. This one however has landing gear for normal take offs & landings. It was clocked at 368 MPH which is roughly 590 KPH.

The gas turbine jets can be a real challenge to photograph. I usually back away from the flight line for a better chance of keeping them in the viewfinder.

StaticMedia, yes, sooner or later, you are going to crash. That is why one starts off with inexpensive and easy to repair. Even after years of practice, things can go worng.

There are two types of R/C Pilots:

1) Those that have wrecked a plane
2) Those that will...

As they say: "If you ain't breaking them, you ain't flying them!"
