B&H has been out of the mk IVs for a LONG time. Is canon still making them? I want a 2nd body but not sure if I should go with a mkIV or X. I shoot sports so the 30% loss going to FF will suck if I go to the X.

Thanks!

Looks like you'll just have to compensate for the loss of "reach" by getting the new 400 f/2.8L Mk II.

I'm sure there'll be a few used ones starting to float around once the 1Dx becomes more readily available. Maybe not too many since I'm sure a lot of users won't want to give up the 1.3x crop factor, but there'll likely be at least a few become available.

Check out the Buy & Sell board here, and on FM.

Just a suggestion.

BTW, are you still shooting for/working for Sporting KC? Did they hire you as a staff photographer?

Haven't seen you post any pics this season. Just curious.

Was there any reason that Canon did not make it possible to switch to a 1.3x like Nikon? Not too familiar with the physics of it, but just a thought.

I'm still interning for Sporting KC. This will be my last season though. At the end of the season, I will tell them that I will be leaving unless they hire me. I'm currently filling my portfolio so I can approach another team and/or wire service.

I was hoping for that option. Is it possible with a firm update?

I am not sure. I know that on the Nikon D3(x I believe) that it was a switch. If it were firmware only, then there wouldn't be much use for one because it would only crop the original image. I'd be interested to hear some opinions on this from those with experience.

Because Canon has their head up their behinds. I have not heard that the MKIV is officially out of production. There is all kinds of rumors on the net and bits and pieces of info from canon. When i called cps i was told nothing official but thats the plan ( stop production ) as of the last announcement. The only thing that will save the 1Dx is iso for the extra stop. So at 300mm you can use the F/4 L in low light and the clean ISO will let you get by. BUT, It still does not give you a 400mm FOV like the MKIV does. I think canon screwed up big time on the professional market. Its either 1Dx or nothing else......thats not gonna fly very long.

As soon as everyone figures out that they have to buy 400mm to get what a 300m does on the MKIV,,,, canon will hear about it from people other than myself. Canon got arrogant once with the MKIII and there was a mass exodus to the nikon camp........watch what happens if they actually play hardbal and force professionals to go 1Dx or nothing else.

My guess is tha they will be forced to leave the MKIV in the line up or they will come out with another body to replace it....a 7DII wont cut it in the professional market.

The only thing saving canons butt right now is the telephotos and professionals are buried in canon glass.

Any thoughts on Canon coming out with a Mark IVn at the end of the year or even 2013?
