I had some free time today and decided to put together a shot with shallow DOF, ND filter, spot metering and ETTL. My daughter was co-operative, probably because the bubbles were distracting her. Here's the result:

I'm curious as to the purpose of using a ND filter for a shot like this. You have a beautiful daughter btw.

My goal was to add light with flash and shoot at a small f-stop value (e.g. f/1.4). In order to do this, I needed to shoot at 1/200s or slower. But since this was in full sunlight, shooting with these settings would have let in way too much light. So I use the ND filter to cut down on the amount of light (4 stops). I then set the flash to output a lot of light to compensate. A speedlite is just usable in this conditions, I found. My studio lights, which give out 10 times the light, are much better suited to this task.

Or, you can wait for late afternoon where there isn't as much light.

And thank you for that comment about my daughter - very nice of you. :)

Thanks for contributing to my thread! Is this your way of tempting me to have more kids? :D
