What you wear can give a big impression, and I'm curious what everyone wears for weddings. Given the inevitable stress of the day for the client, how do you dress. Are you fun and relaxed? Maybe khakis and a Polo or casual button shirt? Are you strictly 100% shirt and tie, all business? Or does the venue dictate it? What if its an outdoor 100 degree wedding, would you ever wear shorts? How about a branded logo shirt?

Lets hear it!

I don't think I could wear anything less than dress shirt & tie. I lose the tie for less formal events.

The Studio I work for, the dress code is Branded Shirt, Black Pants and Dress shoes. Looks smart and doesn't stand out.

^ This - and it will be with a suit or sport coat. Typically this will be in the context of a wedding or PR event. The coat may come off at times, but it's the first impression that arrives on the job.

Fact of life: many people treat you the way you look. This can go well, or badly, depending upon the impression you make which does include attire.

I wear slacks, black sneakers, and usually a button up shirt. Sometimes with a tie. In summer, I swap the long sleeve shirt for a polo.

When shooting I do a lot of moving, laying on the ground, etc. A tie and dress shoes would just get beat up.

Here in Queensland, it's important to stay cool and mobile, especially as I tend to clamber about and spend a lot of time shooting with one knee on the ground (arthritis makes it difficult to bend my knees into a crouch). Hence, I tend to wear black 'chinos' ('slacks' in the US?) plus white shirt and pocket vest with batteries, cards & cleaning kit stowed inside. Over the top of this I wear a two-camera harness.

For the weddings I've done I wear no less than a suit in winter and shirt sleeve order in the summer.

Weddings are suit and tie, something I have always done. Then again all my jobs (non photography) have required me to dress in a suit and tie so I'm use to that type of attire. This of course made it easy for my kids to buy Fathers Day gifts for me. For any other non formal shoot, I wear slacks and dress shirt. I quit dressing like a Hippie back in 1969.

Suggestions welcome.

I hate the all black. I think it makes you stand out in not a great way. I REALLY don't like embroidered logos.

I often wear charcoal + color matching bride's wedding. Always button up, slacks, vest and dress shoes. The heat index is 110 right now in Houston. You don't catch a lot of photographers here in jacket and ties in the summer.

Suit is always on for wedding or dressed up events.

We have black polo tops with logo on Brest and crew with web address on the back when out on a shoot in numbers.

When on our own or just around the office it's black polos with logo on Brest, smart jeans and what ever you happy to work in on your feet.

It's always a triad off over comfort and looking smart.

I think our crew always looks smart and ready to work, there are some I know that don't make an effort and I am sure clients notice.

So, let me get this straight, when you photograph ALL EVENTs, you all wear a dress shirt and tie? I will not provide an example, because "all" is very descriptive. Personally, I don't think the way you look has anything to do with your character, passion, or creativity! A little history about myself, I'm starting from scratch, and this topic is something I am currently debating. I'm creating my marketing models by which customers I wish to attract. I guess the way I dress should be included in my portfolio.

I can understand some degree of formalness, but dressing like you are a corporate lawyer to show up for a concert or some sort of birthday party is ridiculous!

Any birthday party that would pay my rates to shoot it is probably worth dressing up.
