i just seen this great deal on adorama wondering if any one ordered from them before $297=£170 for a 50mm 1.4 lens, *faints*

Adorama is just as reputable as B&H, if a little less polished. I've dealt with them many times. You should have no problems at all.

You need to work out the total cost to the door.

$297 = £174 (allowing for typical credit card rate of 3% over interbank rate)
Add duty (6.7% for lenses, I believe) = £185.66
Add VAT (17.5%) = £218.15
Add courier handling fee (~£12 typically) = £230

If that's still good value, go for it :)
