This should be the last set of pics for me until I go out and get some more. These were taken on 5/26/12. It was a rough day for photography. The whales seemed to enjoy popping up in the glare of the sun. We had some pretty harsh lighting and the overcast sky didn't help matters. I made the best out of it though.

Our first whale of the day, is an adult female named Ganesh flipper slapping.

Shortly after we left Ganesh we came across a group of feeding whales. This is a whale named Division who just popped up right next to the boat. She started kick feeding.

This is from the same sequence as above. She did all the work to corral her food yet when she resurfaced to feed so did two other whales! I wish I knew what happened beneath the surface. I wonder if they were helping to corral the food or if they just sat back and waited to take advantage of her hard work.

Another trio of whales feeding.

Biologists sometimes call the whale's a mouth a bucket. This shot shows why!

I don't know what it is about this pic, but it's one of my favorites from this trip. I guess it's the lighting. This is a whale named Etch-a-Sketch kick feeding.

Thank you! It's pretty amazing that just by opening their mouths to feed they become so entertaining. They put on quite the display. :)

Wow, Mandy, you've sure had some great trips out and some super action too. I like the one you mentioned as one of your favourites a lot too. Also I had a look at some of your videos.....seems like pretty consistent luck seeing whales! Have you ever had a trip out and no such luck?
