Macro lens made out of a pringles can- check it out!

Look at this! This guy apparently made a macro lens out of a pringles can and a few lens covers.

Look at the sample shots, they're suprisingly good.

Cool, but I would have to find something more permanent than a pringles tube....not a bad idea though.

A set of independent tubes are not that expensive!

Haha,cool :)

There are actually a whole bunch of different ways to acheive macro photography on a budget.
One way that might be particularly usefull to canon DSLR owners is that a reversed 18-55 kit lens can give seriously close magnification, very similar to that shown in this guys article -without the massive tube.
Just buy one of those supercheap 58mm reversing rings off ebay.

I wonder if you could modify the design to take two tube, one slides in the other to use for focusing? Also it may be possible to mount an old filter with or without the glass on the end so you can screw a real lens on, instead of just a friction hold or duct tape.

There are also a number of people who have sucessfully made electrical adaptors to allow aperture control on a EF lens when it is reverse mounted, which would make it a very nice setup indeed :D

It's a pity the chinese don't offer something like this -they offer every other kind of cheap adapter.
Novoflex make a good EOS lens reverser but it costs a bomb  . The home made ones sure are cool but the effort needed makes it a real enthusiast project.
