I've not really taken many bird shots in my time, but a month or so ago I was out waiting for a nice sunset in some fields a short walk from my house. I got there early so there was a fair bit of waiting around, after half an hour or so I was buzzed by a barn owl patrolling it's hunting area. Over the next few weeks I went back to try and get a decent picture, he was there 80% of the time I visited, but last weekend provided the best results.

Please note, I have an aged 1D2N and high ISO isn't its speciality and it was really very dark! so the following pictures may not be up to standard!

They are different pictures, the b&w one had a lot of noise though, losing the colour cleaned it up quite well and I think made a more striking image!

Thanks.

Cheers!

He got very close, I was there on Monday using the 200 set to a minimum focus distance of 3.5 metres, he got so close I couldn't focus! I stand in the silohouette of a tree and wait, he flew right past...

This birding lark is expensive isn't it!? It's now got me looking at 500L's!
