I just got my 60D from the CLP and it had 25 actuations on it!! I've shot a few pictures around the yard and the quick report is a good one. No time to post any pictures now but maybe later today. I'm pretty excited and just wanted to post. :D

I've owned my 60D since it was first available October, 2010. I still love it, and I'm still learning how to use it better. Congrats on your new 60D; it's an exceptional camera for the money!

I ordered mine on Saturday and got it today (Wednesday).

Here are the first group of photos and while I'm hoping for some constructive criticism, keep in mind that I'm rather inexperienced and still learning some things. The two things that I'm most curious about are how to get the right exposure with the vulture in flight and why there's a "halo effect" around the eagle. I was working quick with the eagle and surely didn't have it in focus but this is more of a camera blur thing. I was at 1/1000 of a second and had IS on, I'm not sure what caused it.

Oh, the lens was Canon's 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS USM and the bird photos were all at 300mm. A little soft but I honestly wasn't monkeying around with aperture and haven't done any experimenting yet.

I love it. A few pictures "around the yard" seem to include cattle, a large stream and what looks like a bald eagle. Some yard you've got there!

I guess you don't plan on taking too many cityscapes.;) With a yard like that you might want to consider getting a wide angle lens if you don't already have one. Looks like you'll have plenty of photo ops without straying very far from home. I sometimes get some deer, and the occasional hawk in my yard, but I live in a suburban town outside NYC and its definitely not rural. The hawks are usually trying to figure out how (unsuccessfully so far) to get the koi in my fish pond.

I've got the kit lens from my previous T1i, the 18-55EF-S. I also have the Tamron 18-270VC. Neither is ideal but both are adequate in most situations that I find myself in.

As for cityscapes, no, I don't find myself in large towns or cities very often, though I will be in Seattle in a few weeks on my way to Prince of Wales Island, Alaska.

Wow, that last photo was a dandy. Sorry to hear that it happened. I have to admit that I'm sad that my T1i died but I'm sure I'll be happy with the 60D.

Congratulations on your new camera (and the first photos).

I like your backyard too... but I like mine just as well.

The eagle shot looks like slightly oversharpened. Did you use the JPG from the camera, or did you process a RAW image?

If it is the JPG, the Picture Style you are using might be a little agressive on sharpening. (Nothing wrong with this, I use a custom picture style which is more agressive than any standard style).

@Mark: I used to live in Morris Township NJ. In our backyard we had visitors such as deer, racoons and in one (memorable) occasion, skunks... A friend who lives a little further north, in Boonton, NJ this year saw a bear...
