Like I said, DO NOT CLICK ON IT OR TRY TO OPEN IT> Copy that file onto your camera's formatted, empty CF Card and follow the instructions in the other file!

I also have a silly question - Why would you not?

You don't need DPP for the firmware undate, but if you use it, again, why not have the latest?

Lou

The OP's question related to requiring the updated DPP and EOS software to update the firmware on the camera. They are not needed to do the update but are needed after doing the update.

thanks all... I was reading the part that mentioned DPP, I rarely use it so it is not the most updated one. But like someone posted "why not have it" which makes perfect sense and since I'm updating stuff might as well do everything. '
Thanks again :)

Have you not read the instructions file "7d-firmwareupdate-en.pdf" everyone is telling you to read? If not, then do so before proceeding any further.

I think that the thing that is confusing you, Alan is that all previous firmware updates for the 7D were downloaded as an executable ".exe" file. When it was double-clicked then the "FIR" file would be extracted. The FIR file is what was then copied to the memory card. In the latest download, they changed things so that a ZIP file contains the FIR file and all of the PDF files in various languages. The instructions can also be partly to blame since they have not been updated to account for this change and still say to double-click the downloaded file. For those of us who have done it so many times before by rote, it can catch us off guard. As one senior to another, the same thing happened to me initially, but keep it under your hat. We wouldn't want it to spread all over the net, would we? Anyway, I took a step back, gathered my wits, and then saw my faux pas. Good thing that nobody was watching -- it would have been embarrassing. It'll just be our secret -- right? :)

While pranks can happen, it should have been obvious enough that this was not the case in this situation. There is no need to be rude.

After a posted topic reaches several pages or more it usually developes into some sort of chain pulling at some point, so don't be offended and just roll with it. We've all been on both ends of it and sometimes need to just take a step back and sigh or laugh, whichever works best for a particular individual.

From my fieldtesting shooting a concert tonight with the 7D i can definately say that ISO must have been improved upon as i'm getting clean photos at ISO 1600, 2000 and even beyond. This was problematic in the past. I will post some examples soon in the 7D photos thread.

This is sweeter than sugar! :)
