You don't need DPP for the firmware undate, but if you use it, again, why not have the latest? Lou The OP's question related to requiring the updated DPP and EOS software to update the firmware on the camera. They are not needed to do the update but are needed after doing the update.

Aug 08, 2012 18:04 | #814 thanks all... I was reading the part that mentioned DPP, I rarely use it so it is not the most updated one. But like someone posted "why not have it" which makes perfect sense and since I'm updating stuff might as well do everything. ' ---------------Camera, Lens, Flash stuff.. but still wanting more

Your camera will open/access it. Originally posted by Amarinelli -- Ok I just did again and .... Originally posted by Wallace River -- Don't try to open it, it's not an app that Windows can open..... Originally posted by Amarinelli -- I am using widow ..... Originally posted by Yogi Bear -- You are not following the instructions ... Originally posted by Amarinelli -- I am following the instructions but ... Originally posted by mnphotos -- As a number of people have already ..... Originally posted by kcbrown -- You do not double click on the fir file .... Originally posted by Amarinelli -- 7D000200.FIR is the file name .... Originally posted by Wallace River -- Like I said, DO NOT CLICK .... Originally posted by Amarinelli -- Ok I will try that when I get back ..... I think that the thing that is confusing you, Alan is that all previous firmware updates for the 7D were downloaded as an executable ".exe" file. When it was double-clicked then the "FIR" file would be extracted. The FIR file is what was then copied to the memory card. In the latest download, they changed things so that a ZIP file contains the FIR file and all of the PDF files in various languages. The instructions can also be partly to blame since they have not been updated to account for this change and still say to double-click the downloaded file. For those of us who have done it so many times before by rote, it can catch us off guard. As one senior to another, the same thing happened to me initially, but keep it under your hat. We wouldn't want it to spread all over the net, would we? Anyway, I took a step back, gathered my wits, and then saw my faux pas. Good thing that nobody was watching -- it would have been embarrassing. It'll just be our secret -- right? Atmospheric haze in images? Click for Tutorial to Reduce Atmospheric Haze with Photoshop.

We've all been on both ends of it and sometimes need to just take a step back and sigh or laugh, whichever works best for a particular individual. Flickr

This was problematic in the past. I will post some examples soon in the 7D photos thread. | Lots of cheap camera gear |
