I usually let EOS Utility download the images. It's faster, since I only have to connect the camera and click on the "Download images" command. Actual transfer time may be longer, but then I go to do something else.

there's a thousand ways to skin a cat of course, but pulling images at 60MB/s via USB3.... I usually don't have time to go and do something else!

Of course if I ever do what the brother in law did to one of his pins on his 7D putting his card in like he was trying to hammer nails, then I might not take it out every time anymore!

Awesome shots! Which lens did you use the most at the zoo?

Thanks! Only the sigma 50-500 os

My computer is too old to have USB 3 anyway. May reconsider if I get one of those.

You wouldn't upgrade specifically to get it, but I had an old dunger anyway, and the new MB had it onboard.

Thing that gets me is for years you'd be lucky to even reach half of the drive specs written on HDD's etc. but I'm getting both read and write speeds exactly as the CF card is written. If it says 30MB/s that's what I get, same with 60MB/s
put it in perspective, my 2 internal drives, both fast 7200 rpm drives achieve around 90 MB/s so it's not far behind fast modern internal HDD speed. I'd like to try a 90MB/s card one day and see where the maxout point is for USB3

One thing this new 7D update has done for me is I actually explored my camera a bit more today looking through menus etc, and discovered, and have enabled chosing focus points by using the joystick....how cool is that! I know that is not a new feature, but I obviously missed that when I read the manual! I feel so enlightened, yet embarresed at the same time!

On the same token, did you know you can have different AF modes and AF points defined based on your camera orientation? You could have spot AF in portrait on the top point, and center point with expansion in landscape, for example.

Also, you can even set it up so that you always use one shot, but if you hit a button (DOF preview), it will change to AI Servo while holding it down.

yeah........of course..........who doesn't know that........

To be honest, I have never really gotten into customising it, but some of those features you mention sound interesting. And at last, finally something useful for that DOF button ;)

Let me get used to the focus point toggle first!

Interesting. All my Ma setting were still in place after the update, just the actual real world results had changed.

I better check 2 lenses that need MFA then. I haven't used them since I updated to 2.0, but I am going on vacation next week and will use them then.

yes it would be interesting to see how you go. As far as I can see in this thread, it's only myself and another guy who has noticed this, but surely there are a lot of other users who have MA'd their lenses beforehand....

My only thing is I would have thought that if it had anything to do with firmware they might all need to be adjusted one way, not two different directions, and one not at all (it was on zero pre and post update) that's what's still in the back of my head saying "nah, you're dreaming, nothing to do with the update" but I look at the pre and post pictures and they 100% needed the MA values changing with 2 out of 3 of my most used lenses.

who knows??

I won't say that the firmware can't change that, but it would surprise me if it did. Basically, the shift is to compensate for slight hardware tolerance errors by adding a correction bias to the lens focus computation. FWIW, I have not noticed any difference in lens focusing. So far, I have checked out two of my lenses.

Perhaps the real answer is that the huge improvement in high ISO noise reduction has enabled you to be able to see focus errors that could not be observed previously.

(I hope that you sense that I am being facetious).

LOL, yes I do!, but I was waiting for someone to make a connection with high ISO! (which I have noticed nothing btw!)

It did surprise me too. Afterall if they did do something to it, even if they didn't document it, it would hve been easy for them to say "MA will be reset during upgrade, please recheck" and nobody would be none the wiser. As I mentioned, it's the % difference in changes I had to make (I.E, all over the place) is keeping me on the fence with this one. But I thought I'd just throw it out there anyway, especially after the other guy had discovered the same.

I wished I had bought foCal before all of this, (I still haven't) as whilst I'm pretty accurate with my MA, I assume foCal would be more consistent, therefore I could have had the previous data pre update, then run it again and looked for some kind of trend.

Anyway, it's all good, it was easy to fix so def not complaining.

Using Focal my 24-105 consistently MFA's to +1, before and after the 2.0.0 update. The only other lens I had MFA'd with my 7D prior to updating was my Sigma 50, before the update it would plot a predicted MFA over +20 and error out. After the update it MFA'd to +12 on average which was kinda puzzling. I then tried it on my 5DMkII which had MFA'd to +18, the new tests are now showing +9. I figure the change is due to a focus shift or other defect with the Sigma.

can't argue with that I must admit, and for the 50mm, it certainly shows a Sigma thing over a 7D change.

Wow, love the new upgrades. It might be me but i think the camera weighs less now , can see into the future also has regained that new car smell, my sex life is better and i lost 20 lbs. Thanks Canon. See images below for a before and after of a bird that demonstrates how colors now seem more vibrant than before.

Does this apply to jpegs or only RAW images?
