Hello, new member here...:)
I have been lurking for about a month, and the are some real AMAZING photographers, and photos here..
I just recently purchased an above average Canon digital camera, I am not heavily into photograpy, and don't have any special lens or anything like that..I just love taking pictures, and would like to share them with everyone else..

This past weekend I was on a business trip to New York and with the snow on Friday and Saturday our meeting was cancelled..I was in a hotel just a few blocks away from Central Park, and decided to head down there to take some pics..These are my first pics with this camera so I am still getting to know it, took 20 pics only 14 turned out decent..

Please - Post comments, recommendations, tricks, anything helpful..Thank You..

HI, Welcome to the forum. I agree with you when you say there are some real photographers on this ofrum. On topic: one suggestion first: please do not post so many images once. It's hard to well-examine them all. Just put 3 or 4 at a time. Also put numbers before each picture. It helps to analyze the composition. 2 of your photos are REALLY GREAT! The photo with the arches leading to the stairs=: Great composition and shooting angle. I also love the photo beneath it: it conveys a very pleasent winter feeling. The rest did not do much for me. But if you got just one great it's a good shooting!

The composition of these photos is quite good. The real issue here is metering for snow. If you know how to use exposure compensation on your camera, good...if not, now's a good time to learn. Your camera meter will try and render everything as a medium gray. Usually, that's fine since there's a range of tones in an image, but in snow, the meter gets fooled. If you dial in +1 1/2 stops of exposure compensation (or +1, etc), you'll get a much brighter photo that will render the snow as it is: white. You have to be careful when doing this though, so you don't blow out the highlights.

You have a natural eye for composition, and that's the most important thing. I especially like 2, 11, and 12. The underexposure on these could be cleaned up in post processing pretty easily, which would really make them pop!

Welcome to the Forum:
Have never been to Central Park and these pictures give me a great view of it.
As others have mentioned the composition on your pictures is very good but they all seen to be under exposed and gray looking. As Jman13 mentioned you will have to compensate your exposure when shooting pictures of snow. As they say practice makes perfect so experiment with different exposure settings to see which is the best.
You did not mention the type of camera you are using but by reading the manual you will be able to find out if it can be set for AEB to bracket your exposures.
If you search the threads will will find some on the proper exposure for snow.
Looking forward to more of your postings.

Thank you everyone for the info..
The picture looking up the stairs was my favorite..But should I have photoshopped the people out of the picture or leave it as is?..I guess its whatever effect I am looking for..

I just have a basic digital camera (Canon Powershot A510)..Just something I can use for pictures like this, and also for just basic pics of my daughter or whatever...
I only purchased it a few days before the trip and really haven't had time to mess with all the settings, that was the first time I used it..
Again, Thanks to everyone for the advice, and comments..I will be reading up on the camera over the next few days..Hopefully able to contribute to this forum as much as possible..
