Hey All!

I just got the cash flow to upgrade my XSi to a new body!!! The kind of photography I really enjoy for now is Portraits, Landscapes and Pets.

That said: Witch camera should better suite my needs?

60D or 7D. I know the have the same sensor but there might be some users here who have tried both?

Half the forum is going to descend in a moment to recommend the 5DII. And they might be right. But out of the two you mention I'd go 60D because of the flappy tilty screen. Excellent for live view composing of landscape shots.

As Ian said, for portraits, landscapes and cats, the 5D2 or 5Dc are great choices. I would probably go with the 5Dc+lenses.

i'd get the 5d2, if you like the extra reach you get with the crop the 7d would be a good choice, read up on the new FW for it, it might have something you like.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'll buy the 7D unless I get a deal for $1,500 for the 5D2 on Craigslist or something. :P

The Canon Direct Store (http://shop.usa.canon.com …gory_10051_10051_-1_29252 (external link)) has a refurbished 5DMkII shown at $2199. Under the Canon Loyalty Program that would come down to $1759 + taxes because you get 20% off the listed price at the Canon Direct Store. The basics? You have to live in the States and have a Canon product you wish to trade. That product can be working or not and can even include a film P&S camera; many people buy a junker off eBay to trade.. The refurbs come with a 14-day exchange and 90 day warranty. Most people are very pleased and end up with near new appearance cameras. The other day someone got a 60D with 15 shutter actuations, mine had 40+. Do a search on Canon Loyalty Program for details.

The 7D is shown at $1399 so at 20% off it would be about $1120 for the body.

Of course, getting a 5DII will mean a new lens as well (17-40?) as your 18-55 won't fit.

Pets in motion, or sitting still?

If shooting a lot of action/movement.... 7D or 5D3.

If shooting stationary subjects mostly... 60D or 5D2.

Buy the least expensive camera you can... Put the monies saved into better lenses. That will make a much bigger difference in your results than the camera you choose. For example, replace 18-55 with 17-55/2.8. Or replace 50/1.8 with 50/1.4. Or both.

If you already have an XSi body and like it, the 60D may be a better fit for you. I think it's a wee bit bigger than the Rebel bodies, but still smaller than the 7D body, which is practically a full-sized body (minus integrated grip of course).

Also, for the subjects you mention, there's no reason (really) to use a 7D.

You might also consider just keeping your body and upgrading your glass. I took a look at your flickr and noticed you using (I'm assuming) the 70-200 for the prom shots indoors.

Nice shots, but perhaps sell the 70-200 f/4 for a f/2.8 version? (there's definitely a weight increase, though).

You could also upgrade your kit 18-55 to maybe a Canon 17-55 IS 2.8 or Tamron 2.8 if you wanted to, etc. etc.

Basically - what about your current body do you not like?

Yep the, 50mm 1.8 and the 70-200 F4 was used for that. Good eye :P

I'm going to Best buy today to see how the 60D and 7D feels in my hand. If the 7D is too big, I will go with the 60D and save the money for the 2.8 70-200.

My current body is really bad when it comes to ISO higher than 400

Thank you

Absolutely not!
For an upgrade get the best camera you can so you can keep it for a long while and don't have to upgrade at the expense of lenses down the road.
