What lens? And why F/5.6? Seems like you could've had a wider aperture and dropped the ISO a bit.

It's the 100-400 and f/5.6 is wide-open. Like I said, sure missing the 70-200 f/2.8L IS!

I agree with Moderator in training Teamspeed. Overexpose your high iso shots by about 1 stop and the noise issue minimizes greatly.

I was already shooting with the lens wide-open and at ISO 6400. There wasn't anymore exposure to gain short of reducing shutter time to speeds that would have blurred out the subjects.

There's one problem (you didn't run NR), and your next one is your'e about to use DPP's NR, which is pretty bad.

I have Neat Image which generally does a good job reducing noise and not turning the image to smooth. I'll give that a run.

Not one parent is going to notice any noise in these.

Thanks. Didn't think so but I don't have to go that high on the ISO setting under normal shooting conditions. Game was supposed to start about 45 minutes earlier when the light was still there.

Snyderman good shots, noise or not, you won't find a great deal of noise until you get up around 5,000 ISO. Then again there is an app for that.

A great photo only starts with the shutter release,

I think they look pretty good. Was gonna say to open up the f stop but then I seen your lens. Yes there is noise but overall the FF look is much more real than my 60D

Thanks. And as mentioned, I try to shoot when light is available but it went dark way too fast that evening!

Thanks. And yeah, the f/2.8L IS is long gone! This game was supposed to start about 45 minutes sooner which would have been fine for the 100-400mm at f/5.6.

Yeah, I probably should have used the noise reduction in DPP before I processed them in PSE. Guess I can go back and do it again! Thanks for the tip and your opinion.

dave

instead of DPP use noise reduction in Photoshop with layers, it's better. But those pics don't look so bad for ISO 4000
