I have Photoshop Elements 8 and I'm slowly learning how to use it. With my T1i, I was always able to open and edit RAW images but I just got a 60D and for some reason, I'm getting a message that I can't open the RAW files because they're "the wrong sort of file". Does anybody know what may be wrong or how I can resolve this?

Thanks.

Elements 8 doesn't know about the 60D. The converting your images to DNG (external link) and your problem should be solved. You can also upgrade to Elements 10, free solution vs $.$$ .

Support for the 60D was added in 6.2, however the last update for PSE8 is 6.6. No need to convert to DNG or upgrade unless you want to.

I tried to download the patch from Adobe and failed because it was "inapplicable" for me according to Adobe. I went to PE8 and downloaded the 1 update that I needed and I still can't open the RAW images. I'll try again later today.

I thought that perhaps PE 8 wouldn't support 6.6 so I tried 6.2 and got an error message that it can't load because it's the wrong type of file. What!?!?!?!

Bill, have you read the ACR instructions and/or the ReadMe file? See here: http://www.adobe.com …ads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5316 (external link)

"This Camera Raw 6.6 update is not compatible with versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 10.0, or versions of Premiere Elements earlier than 10.0. "

It's a little confusing on the 6.6 ReadMe -
Compatibility
The Camera Raw 6.6 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS5 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows and Photoshop Elements 8 for Mac.

The latest version of the Camera Raw plug-in available for Photoshop Elements 8.0 (Windows, Mac) is Camera Raw 6.2.

This is from the 6.2 ReadMe -
Photoshop Elements:
Windows®:
NOTE: You must follow all of the new instructions in order to successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in for Photoshop Elements.
1. Exit Photoshop Elements.
2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.
3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
4. Navigate to the following location:
a. Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-ins\Elements 8\File Formats
5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.
6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 4.
7. Launch Photoshop Elements

Did you follow the directions?

The ReadMe for 6.6 is a little confusing. One part says not earlier than PSE8 and then further down it says 6.2 is the last for PSE8.

There was a different link from PSE to 6.2. http://www.adobe.com …ads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4810 (external link)

Does PSE not use the same ACR?

ACR 6.2 is the lastest version of ACR of Photoshop Elements 8 that is compatible with the Canon TI1.

The discussion got sidetracked with the introduction of the 60D talk but the OP never said he had a 60D.

He needs ACR 6.2: http://www.adobe.com …ads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4809 (external link)

ACR under PSE is crippled; you don't get the full range of options.

I knew you didn't get the full range, but when trying to help I just always go to the Product Updates/Camera Raw and go from there.
