Is there a list of shots that every photographer should have, Like self challenges, water drop, frozen baseball etc.

I suppose we all have our own lists. Mine keeps getting longer since I became a member here. But I don't think there is a "list" that EVERYONE has to get photos of. It's all personal.

I think everyone should be encouraged to have a go at the "clichés"...the flowing waterfall, HDR, waterdrop, light-painting, reverse-lens macro, sunrise/set over well known landmark etc.

Even if they file them in the 'experimental, never doing that again' folder it doesn't hurt to understand the theory and process behind them.

But I don't think there's a 'must have' list.

Arbitrary lists of subjects just plain feels like a creativity killer. But learning to use your set up without having to fiddle and fumble is a skill everyone needs to develop, so I will suggest 1 shoot you should do:

1) go learn to pan at a bicycle race, horse show, motocross race, anything with regular passing subjects, I spent hours at a carousel panning wooden horses. Word of caution, passing traffic is a bad idea, some people come back angry about getting photographed and although it is perfectly legal just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Any one else?

I've seen people do 30 day lists and shoot whatever was on that list for whatever day they were on. Looked kind of fun but I never tried it.

Hmm...yeah, selective coloring. Wicked HDR shots. Getting a film look from your digital shots (that's actually quite useful for me since my current style is actually based on that "look.")

Typically a list like that would be totally subjective. But there ae such things that come up in the "Competitions" section:

YEAH - whatever happened to the tradition here at POTN of having to post duck shots when you got a new camera?

HDR, everyone will try to show you that they understand about photography by asking you if you have ever shot HDR before. I wanna say them f. off but cannot, so i took 2-3 HDR photos LOL
