Purchase a manfrotto crosss arm (external link) so I can shoot tethered. What I am noticing with using this is there is alot of wobble in the camera. I have a 7D w/Sigma 70-200 f2.8 mount arca swiss to a Gittos MH1302 head (external link). Is there any way to control this?

I use the cross arm when I doing a photo-booth, camera on one end, light in the middle and printer on the other end. I haven't noticed any wobble using either a geared head or a ball head. What exactly is wobbling? The arm, the tripod or the head.

Are you triggering the camera with a remote?

I use both the camera and a remote, depending on the situation. My cross arm doesn't wobble on my manfrotto 055xprob tripod. I'll set it up tomorrow and check to make sure it doesn't wobble and let you know, but I'm pretty anal about anything moving that isn't supposed to.

Aren't you suppose to just mount the arm directly to the tripod instead of the ballhead?

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

I am thinking aout purchasing this arm, so I am curious to see your setup and what is happening.

Thanks.

From the specifications on the Manfrotto arm it says it has a 3/8" female thread attachment type. The tripod head you listed has a 1/4" threaded screw on it. That is why the arm feels loose or wobbly when mounted.

Take Care,
Cheers, Patrick

Here's a photo of my setup with the geared head and tray. The arm will move if pushed (fairly hard) but it doesn't wobble or move when I take a photo. Overall, I would say it's very solid.

Nice setup! I think it maybe the fact that my set of leg are not sturdy enough for the weight of the table and laptop. I will hold my camera just fine. For now I am going to get a set of legs to hold laptop only.

I thought this might interest some of you. I don't shoot tethered but bought my ballhead based on this video.
