AlienBees are studio lights. You could get a decent studio setup with external power for around 1,000. You will also need triggers.

The budget option is ebay radio triggers and ebay flashes.

Adorama Flashpoints.

150w/s for $100, 300w/s for $189. I think they even have a 1200w/s for $300...maybe that's the 600 w/s.

My village called. I was told that they missed me.

Speedotron users, untie!

Dont use a soft box. The 430 is fine for cars at dusk / night.

Don't try to confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up.

I'd beg to differ... Have you actually shot a car using bare flash? It's not very appealing. I'd recommend finding somewhere with white ceilings and try bouncing the light off the ceiling the ceiling.

lol I counter your beg to differ and turn it back on you..

Have YOU actually shot a car using bare flash? For the last year I've primary shot automotive and 99.9% of the time use bare flash.

Here in SW Florida I am fortunate to have my friend Steve Thorson's StillMotion Studios (external link) at my disposal. An infinity cove, sail and studio strobes work a bit better than a speedlite.

If you don't have a studio with a cove & flats, then this is the cheapest & easiest way to shoot them if you want to make them look good, & not just "Arty": A few Car Lighting Tips - Updated
This was shot in a parking lot:

Trying to get that effect with a 430ex & softbox would be very difficult.

Um yeah....these were all shot with bare Yongnuo 565EX's. It's been a while since I've shot any cars. I need to get back out there....Some were shot with 2 bare flashes, and some were 3.
