Hi,
How do you set/control the resistance of the push-pull zoom of a Canon 100-300 5.6 L?

Best regards,

Yeah, I've got it's little brother the 70-210 f/4 and it slides like ball bearings on bacon grease. Nothing you can do, unfortunately. Still, a cool old lens!

I Have no idea what the Canon 100-300 5.6 L is.. I'm guessing you mean the 100-400L 4.5-5.6?

Haven't you tried tighten/loosen the locking ring?

100-300L 5.6 .. it's a great ole "L" lens. I love it for the price. (<$325 for mint copy).
That said, no practical way to adjust tension - other than maybe a "lens band".

No ball bearing, nor bacon, but it cannot maintain full extension when sitting straight up. What resistance is "normal"?

It should be a little better than that, but unfortunately there's not much to be done without tearing the whole lens apart.

Stretch a lens band or thick produce (like broccoli) rubber band around the inner barrel when you're at full extension and it should keep the head from sliding back down on its own.
