We must be having one of those years. My dad has been in hospital since Monday after experiencing double vision that started Monday morning. His right eye has not been tracking properly. Word came through late tonight that the results of the scans suggested a stroke. The eye tracking has been improving today and his vision seems to be getting better. Here's hoping.

The Lance Armstrong empire continues to crumble. He has stepped down as chairman of Livestrong and now NIKE has terminated their contract with him.

Not good... not good at all...

Whatever Lance did or didn't do, I just hope Livestrong doesn't take too big of a hit, they've done a lot of good for cancer research.

It frankly surprises me that this scandal is a surprise to the world in general. It really shouldn't affect LAF, but I suppose it might.

I don't think there's ever been a doping scandal in a sport where the sport cleaned up afterwards. Festina didn't change a thing. Puerto didn't change a thing. Neither will this.

Imagine if they started doing out-of-season random testing on football players! Hell, even golfers. Cycling is unique in the amount of impact a doping program has on performance though. Runners too...

A surprise? No not really, especially not after everything that has happened the last few weeks. Lance will be fine, whatever happens, but LAF is bigger than that.

Sounds like they are trying to do some damage control. Gotta distance yourself from the sacrificial lamb.

No, I mean USADA's report being a surprise, not the LAF thing. That one was obvious. Lance will probably fall low enough to be on some reality show next year.

Regarding the USADA report, most of the racers I know have thought the pro peloton has been doping at the top all along.

 Hasnt been a surprise when basically the whole peloton has been implicated. You honestly think this wont change anything? Lance became the global icon of cycling with his 7 tour victories. He basically is the face of this mess (not saying he is the only one but rather he is the name that resonates with people who do not even follow cycling). Festina and Puerto didnt do much but i see this unfolding much differently. I hope the UCI is implicated in this cover up mess and the whole system is turned on its head. Again it is just a hope as like you i am pessimistic.

Maybe on Dr. Drew's recovering addicts show. They could have a whole bike racer season. :)

Festina and Puerto were USADA big in Europe. In the latter, one single doctor had 100 bags of cyclists' blood in his fridge! No way he was the only "doctor" with blood ready for transfusion -- he'd just the one they found. This problem is rampant. It was a huge huge deal in Europe, and Festina may have been even bigger. Nothing changed other than maybe redoubling cover-up efforts and new masking agent research. We didn't hear much about Festina and Puerto in the US because nobody important to us was implicated.

Greg - hope your father gets well quickly.

Levi Leipheimer lives nearby and the local newspaper has an extended interview with Levi HERE (external link).

Seems like the trend now as the majority confessing are from this side of the pond. The other side has plenty of skeleton bones as well.
